Casey Affleck - Enunciation

I swear, this young man needs to get his butt to acting class ASAP. His voice projection and enunciation are complete failures. He mumbles, stumbles and stammers his way through every role I've seen him in. And believe me, he's had some pretty choice roles. Possibly producers doing favors for Ben.

He's not bad. I actually like the young man. Theres a freshness and innocence about him.

Heck, if he needs a role model when it comes to diction and enunciation use Richard Burton. Burton could whisper on stage and the people in the last row of the 3rd balcony could hear and understand every single word.

First of all he's a film actor, he doesn't need to project.

Second of all, Dustin Hoffman has mumbled his way through a highly successful career. De Niro and Brando too for that matter.

I agree. Affleck's speaking style is his trademark and makes him very unique as well as funny when used comically. That's his working class Boston upbringing coming out in his voice timbre.

Points well taken - now my rejoinder.
Dustin Hoffman in Kramer v Kramer spoke clearly, powerfully and with depth especially when he made the case before the judge and earlier before Meryl. I never really liked Dustin except for Rain Man ... where he mumbled. But that's what the role called for and that's what he delivered - boy did he deliver.

De Niro was clearly speaking, might say powerfully, in Deerhunter - no mumbles here. One of my favorite movies.

Brando, the king of the mumblers, spoke clearly, powerfully and dynamically in Viva Zapata - one of my favorite movies.

As for Casey - I'l like him to take a role like Wilford Brimley did in Absent Malice where Will played Asst. U.S. Attorney James J. Welles, head of the Stike Force. His 5 minutes on screen were a Tour de Force. AWESOME. If Casey could demand such a role, then I'd change my opinion - willingly. Hope he does.

Affleck was the highlight in an otherwise silly and lazily directed movie.

He might have spoke with a more whiny tone than usual because his character is supposed to be a bit of a dweeb. But I had no trouble understanding what he was saying. And the chemistry between him and Ben Stiller was great: "Why can't you be my skinny Friar Tuck?" "Who's Friar Tuck?"

Maybe it's because I've seen "There's Something About Mary" and "The Heartbreak Kid" too many times because it's weird to watch a movie with Ben Stiller where no one body slams him.
