I watched someone unbox a steering wheel and weigh it, it weighed 32 ounces or 2 pounds. The price of gold in 2011 was $1,900 an ounce at its peak in August 2011.
Let's assume the steering wheel was made of aluminum...aluminum is .098 pounds per cubic inch...gold is .698 pounds per cubic inch. Circumference of a typical steering wheel is 14 1/2 to 17 1/2 inches so let's go low at 15 1/2 inches. That's 12 cubic inches, meaning there is 8.376 pounds in the steering wheel (not counting the center piece or the spokes). That's 134.016 ounces.
