Does anyone know what the large phone-like thing hanging around Dan's neck by a key-strap (when he grabs Amy and jumps into the water) is? You get a couple of looks at it before he jumps in and can even see the strap a few times after he's in the water. Then it's gone.
shareI think the stap was some type of cumpus or something. Sailors generally use it to keep an eye on the direction they are going and is sometime used as a tracking device, in case they were needed to be track. You don't see the strap anymore because like a fool, he took the stap off before he tried to grap the flag on the back of the boat. Why he let something as important as THAT go, I will never know. But look closely in the scene when he swims over to the flags. When he says "would you get off my back, I said I was sorry", he immediately takes the stap off and just lets in sink in the water. If it was what I think it was, maybe they'd have been found sooner. But now, I guess we'll never know....

I have a brother-in-law who is a cop who owns a sailboat, pal. Things like electronic compasses exist, can be used as a tracking device, and would evidently blow your mind if you're that out of the loop when it comes to sailing. You must have been living under a rock somewhere for a good long while. So, in your case, I guess there IS no future for the human race. Either that or no future in YOU being a part of it... Thank God!!!!
