Has any film released since this one come close matching it in terms of being a cinematic masterpiece?

Feel free to give post 2008 examples for consideration...

From the Oscar winners (for what they're worth) only The Artist and Birdman come close-ish. And even those - great films sure but not the same level of masterpiece as this.

Probably yeah, it can easily be held up against the cinematic greats.

Scorsese’s The Irishman, and possibly Silence, would also be contenders.

No. I think "True Grit", from 2010, is truly great as well.

I already listed other great movies over a month ago on THIS THREAD! But yeah, I guess for you that equates to not a "single good movie since 2008"?

The term complete f-ckwit may be somewhat overused these days but I think, given the context here, it is entirely appropriate...

This is a great film, but I've never been compelled to watch it a second time. Movies I've watched more than once since 2008:

A Serious Man
Nightcrawler
BR: 2049
Joker
Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood

I don't know if they're better, but they have rewatch value, which I think is important.
