Can people suggest any other films similar to this that doesnt feel too mainstream (they seem to be carbon copies of each other) . The only other english film i know about and loved was 'lost in Translation', loved the visuals in both these films and the music really works.

There are alot of asian films that have a great story and visuals but to have comedy that worked alongside serious issues is where shanghai kiss really worked for me.

I still think asian films have alot better style of film, how come you dont see english films shot like 'lovers' http://www.haveyouloved.com the scenes look really nice, a film about a chinese lady who goes around photographing couples in shanghai and meets an american stranger who is visiting.

So is there any other english films :(

The reason is because only Asian cities have the neon lights that photograph so beautifully at night. Having said that, I can think of no other English films that have that visual style. If you want Asian recommendations, try Millennium Mambo.

Well, it's not an English film, but 'My Sassy Girl' is a Korean romantic comedy/drama that is pretty much untouchable in my book. It doesn't have the Hollywood mainstream feel to it, but it was a massive, colossal success all over Asia. Hollywood is currently remaking it, sadly. Bastards.

Anyway, definitely worth checking out if you haven't already.

i have seen My sassy girl, it is one of my fave films, along with Il Mare, A moment to remember, Be with you... asian films are great:)
