True story?

So I hear this is a true story? David Ren even posted on imdb.

THe film had its funny moments but is he serious that he fell in love with a 15 yr old girl and thinks thats ok? I think he is confused when he thinks america is not ready for an asian male romantic lead. I think america is just not ready for inapropriate relationships of that nature (age, not race). Hopefully they never are either. We don't want america to start trafficking underage girls for exploitation or anything.

If he wants to make acceptable asian male leads, examine what has worked in the past. Stereotypical jacky chan types. However you can also use movies like Jet Li's "Hero". Tackling subjects not only of love but many other things like duty, honor, revenge etc.

Autobiographies are better if they are tragic imo. David Ren should know, America is still bigotted or racist in some ways & they don't even realize it. They will never be ready for male leads of a minority race until the culture has evolved.

The movie was mildly entertaining, though it was hard to identify with the protagonist.

Funniest part of the movie was the fight with the taxi driver

He resisted a relationship the whole time because she was underaged, up until the end, when she was already 18. He and she were never actually a couple. SHe was in love with him but he thought of her more like a baby sister.

Plus nobody seems to complain about Bill Murray getting it on with 17 year old Scarlet Johannson in Lost in translation.

I don't think Scarlet's character was 17, even though Scarlet the actress was. I don't know if she was supposed to be or not in the movie, but they never mention an age, they show her drinking/smoking, and she's married. In SK, they make a big deal out of Hayden's age and show her going to high school.

The age difference did add complexity to the movie, but I'll admit it was distracting at times.
