Lost in Translation 2...?

I feel eerily reminded of "Lost in Translation". The cinematography and some of the storyline seems, eh, similar. Driving into the city, shots of neon signs, going out to Karaoke bar, hanging out in disco, isolation in a foreign place...sound familiar?

Living here, I watched the movie mostly because I wanted to see what Hollywood can do to beautify Shanghai...Shanghai never looked so clean, had such polite and friendly drivers and the absence of spitting and rubbish was notable. I can honsetly say that THIS Shanghai I definitely would want to visit.

I did not get the point of the movie. While there were budding "nostalgia" moments, the storyline was too scattered. The journey from aimlessly wandering actor that finds his purpose in life was not well conveyed.

I have also never seen a teenager so poorly portayed by a...well, teenager (Hayden). Neither believable nor comical.

Independent or not, a movie still has to convince without context. This one did not.

This is better than Lost in Translation (which I also loved). The point is follow your own path in life. You are who you believe you are, not what people tell you you are. You love who your heart tells you to love, not what society tells you to love.

Seemed you don't really know Shanghai! Shanghai is much cleaner than before, and most drivers are polite and friendly. Shanghai is not a city full of rubbish. It's the modernest and coolest city in China, how can you describe Shanghai like this! Definitely you should go to Shanghai to see how great this city is, then you will know that you are very wrong!

I loved Lost in Translation by Sofia Coppola. This Shanghai kiss movie copied some of the scenes which I believe they are not better than the original scenes from Lost in Translation. To all the fellow filmmakers, please don't mimic any more scenes from Sofia's movie, especially filmming a guy sitting in the back seat, looking out of the window and starring at all the neon lights while playing some dream-like music. However, things I liked about this movie are the internal conflicts of the main character and the relationship between a older man and teenage girl. Well, thats from Lost in Translation as well, middle-aged man and a girl just finished college. Shanghai kiss is a good movie in a special way, and I recommand all the Chinese Americans to see this movie.
I love Hayden Panettiere!!

LIT borrowed a lot from Chungking Express. I wouldn't call Coppola's film a font of originality.

I agree, the taxi scene when Liam first arrived in Shanghai is IDENTICAL to LIT.
