I agree, although I rate the movie higher than just 'mediocre'.
Ken might not have the dazzling looks (although from an objective standpoint one certainly can't call him unattractive) or physique of some of the other Asian-American actors - but this has a silver lining.
The irony of the situation lies in how his relatively 'human' appearance and demeanor enables us viewers to relate to him, and more importantly how that allows the viewer to focus on his acting chops. In this, we're more tuned-in to his performances than ever as opposed to his impossibly good looks or shredded physique. He betrays a real sense of vulnerability in some of his scenes and of course the razor-sharp, sardonic wit he displays in his other scenes are just excellent (think: Taxi driver scene, and his witty repartee with his white male "Ronald Regan" friend).
This fact might make him one of the most promising and potentially one of the most important Asian-American actors of this generation. Just my humble opinion.
