Garden State

This might get some people angry but I felt like this was Garden State all over again. I liked Shanghai Kiss, great performances, good plot, great characters and funny, but the similarities are just too much. A struggling actor, a life changing trip caused by a family death, the annoyingly adorable girl that helps him change, the bad relationship with the father, and the emotional problems that get resolved at the end. What does everyone think?

While there were some aspects of Shanghai Kiss that I enjoyed, I liked Garden State far better.

I thought Garden State had more depth and heart.

While Shanghai Kiss is a decent, enjoyable film, it's really nothing more than a simple paperback novel you can read and finish in one sitting on a Sunday afternoon. I don't think this is really the type of film that makes you think deeply or really resonates with you emotionally. While I liked the chemistry between the leads, I think that this film is ultimately forgettable down the road.

Great movies are ones you remember long after you've seen them. These films include Cinema Paradiso, A Walk to Remember, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Love, Actually. You truly fall in love with the characters and feel for them when they experience their highs and lows.

At best, Shanghai Kiss is one of the Lifetime Weekend TV movies, or something you might catch on the Hallmark network.

It is very similar to The garden state, but nowhere near.
Garden state was a far superior film, with better actors, great screenplay, excellent direction and an amazing soundtrack.
This movie is just a bad copy.

there are similarities, but only externally.
when you get down to the core, the integral parts, the 2 movies are so different.
Shanghai Kiss deals with identity issues of race and age and cultural heritage, none of which is a factor in Garden State.
