i personally don't see anything wrong with what they were doing, of course the movie explains the circumstances surrounding them. but this is not uncommon in the real world as far as 16 and 17 year olds dating guys much older in their mid to late 20s.
just out of curiosity would any of you think badly of a 26-28 year old involved with a 16-17 year old still in high school?

shareI have gone back and fourth on this thought since I've seen the movie. First off, it was obvious that he had nothing physical with the 16 year old because of how young she was. It was all emotional. He waited until she was 18 to pursue her "officially". Besides, a 17/18 year old in high school is a lot different than a 17/18 year old in college.
I believe age is just a number, and 16 is the age of consent in my state, but I would only "think badly" on a 26+ man with a 16-18 year old girl because anyone under the age of 20 annoys the crap out of me ..so my opinion is a bit biased.

Personally, I think they should have left out the age-gap... it really was not that necessary. I know it's important in the film, as implied... but if they left it out, it still could have been a great story. When I watch the film, I don't really think about the age-gap as that important to the story.
