This Movie Was 1000X Better Than 'Joy Luck Club' !!

This movie was a thousand, no a million times better than garbage like 'Joy Luck Club', 'Red Doors', or anything Lucy Liu or Bai Ling have been in.

The funniest part is how there's a thread complaining about how the movie is offensive to Chinese girls. I bet that same poster probably LOVED a White Knight movie like 'Joy Luck Club', that demeans Asian males.

If you liked this one, others to watch are 'American Pastime' and 'The Motel'

Right on bud!

Joy Luck Club is an abomination and has done more harm to young Asian American Males than Long Duk Dong from Sixteen Candles & Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's combined. That Amy Tan has used the book and the movie to promote her anti-Asian Male stance is disgusting. And the fact that this racist book is now taught in many, many high schools is a tragedy.

A lot of what passes as "Asian American art" is really catered for Uncle Tams and their White Knight consumers. It's interesting that Joy Luck Club came out in 1993 and eighteen years later we have these books and media about Tiger Moms and their near-college biracial children. Hmmmm....

I totally agree with all the other posters on this topic. In the movie version of "Joy Luck Club" all Chinese men are portrayed as monsters. The one white guy is an adulterous, worthless dork, but not a demon monster like all the Asian men. I'm a white woman, and I was completely aghast at what a flagrant piece of male-bashing propaganda it is. I wondered why there wasn't more of an outcry about it. Why were the men in the world so passive when it came out? It's nothing but the Asian version of "A Color Purple" (where all black men are depicted as savage wife beaters, adulterers, rapers of their stepdaughters, you name it -- they're so monstrous the women are driven to become lesbians). In the JLC book not all the men are monsters; some are good, some are bad, some are neutral, but they're all sort of peripheral and undefined, like props in the women's stories but not much more.
