Kurt Cobain

I knew she meant it metaphorically when Vanessa said that she couldn't wait for him to become Kurt Cobain, but it is still kind amusing considering that Cobain killed himself at 27 back in 1994 and Mark is supposed to be around 40. So if Mark were actually like Cobain then he would have turned into dust by the time of this film in 2007. Why couldn't they mention a legendary Rocker who was still alive instead? I am sure there were still a few of them out there.

reply

Because there are no decent rockstars at this day of age.

She obviously meant a famous rock star and that's a name that would be reasonable for Vanessa to know. Please provide better realistic examples she could have used.

Eddie Vedder comes immediately to mind. He was relevant in the days of Nirvana (early 1990's), has had a great deal of longevity, and is still known today.

The reference to Cobain was actually spot on.

Mark told Juno he opened for The Melvins in 1993...it was clear he wanted to be back there doing that, and he had likely told Vanessa about this brush with fame on numerous occasions.

Dale Crover, the drummer for The Melvins, was actually part of Nirvana.

Crover played drums with Nirvana when they recorded a ten song demo on January 23, 1988 in Seattle, which later formed part of their debut LP Bleach, and played a live show in Tacoma later that day. Osborne would later introduce Cobain and Krist Novoselic to Dave Grohl.[12] Later that year Osborne and Crover relocated to San Francisco, California. Lukin stayed and formed the band Mudhoney. Lori "Lorax" Black (daughter of Shirley Temple) replaced Lukin on bass. The band recorded Ozma in May 1989, and released it later that year. The album was produced by Mark Deutrom, who later joined the band on bass.
