Film has not aged well, would be POORLY RECEIVED if released today.

I liked this film when it was first released almost 10 years ago. Watched it for the second time nearly a decade later today and realize it has NOT aged well. The way Juno speaks and acts is the epitome of an annoying "hipster". We are supposed to take her seriously when she acts sarcastic and disrespectful to a well off, polite couple willing to take her baby?

Her behavior and attitude about music and all her "quirks"... ehhhh... maybe this movie was THAT influential that it inspired the many movies that followed this that have completely over-done these characters and dialogue in modern independent films...

Overall, I feel like this movie only worked because when it was released at the time the market and our culture wasn't flooded with stuff like this.

Your theory would have some merit were it not for the fact that from the day "Juno" was released in theaters, people started posting here with exactly the same complaints you did, and yet it was still a critical and box office success. The character of Juno and how Diablo Cody wrote her dialogue were always divisive. Nothing has changed.

With all due respect, I think it's you who aged not the movie. As I get older I feel the same way about movies and whatnot. When I was younger I didn't think stuff like that was disrespectful or rude, I just thought it was clever and funny. I watched movies and read books from the younger characters perspective. Now that I'm older I tend to see it through the older characters eyes. So what was once funny now seems offputting.

Coming back years later and rewatchint made me realize how annoying, pretentious and rude Juno is. I couldn't stand her.

I literally didn't make it past the opening credits when I saw her walking around drinking a bottle of Sunny D looking like a snotty little derper.

That was during the beginning of this week. It was the second or third attempt, a couple days later, that I actually watched the movie, and I still couldn't stand her.

This is sort of right, but I take it a step further. No matter what age I am, I forget that for the viewing and put myself in the mind and eyes of the protagonist. If the characters are well-written, it works

Absolutely agree here, I watched it for the first time in around 5 years and I enjoyed it, it was still funny, warm and thought provoking.

If anything Juno was actually wise beyond her years and as for her speech and quirks, uh she was a teenager.

I really think they could have had the same effect with a toned down Juno. It was too much. No teenager is that bad.

Ask any teacher in a[ public school, teenagers can be that bad! It all depends on how they talk at home, as shown in the movie.

Juno's character is actually funny in the way she talks to people, including the adults. Many teens I deal with are disrespectful without the humor in it! And they are just 7th & 8th graders!

The movie was an alternative "take" on the typical Lifetime movie. It was and remains very refreshing.

There are a number of things the movie does very differently than the usual story of this type. The fact that it was so unusual makes it watchable to this day.

The main character is a smart tom-boy type. The adoptive parents are flawed and still sympathetic. One of the things I like about the story is that Juno has a very strong relationship with her stepmother.

On the topic of acting, I think this movie is incredible. Everyone is good and at the top of their game.

Oh- and the music and songs were very very inventive.

@Jefbecco-1, I posted something at the Bigger Faster Stronger boards wish you could return to discuss and as for Juno, well the movie has aged and with the main actress coming out as lesbian; it makes feel as something in the movie was lost. Not saying it is terrible but just as how some early 90s movies looked got for their time but aged awful.

Guess there really are people who act worse than 12 year olds.

I still enjoyed the movie, but then again, I watched it when I was 16 or 17, and came back to it at 25 so I'm still not that much older than Juno even today. I imagine it might be different if I was 10 years older, but part of me thinks that I'll still enjoy it just as much as I did the day I saw it. Who knows, really?
