Would 'Max Payne' work as an HBO series?

I think Max Payne would be good if it were an HBO series because there would be more time to develop the story, more killing, cussing, sex, and each episode could be each chapter of the video game.

I'm thinking... yes

A series per game, so so far 3

I'd rather see a continuation of the 3rd game. It was complex enough to make at least the beginning of a series. I like Mona, but there could be a strong (probably stronger) narrative without her. I thought the game was going to be terrible, but I kind of prefer the Max Payne that is perpetually stuck in an existential hell exploited by years of substance abuse.

This is not an exit.

Yes. Hell yes.

Just say no.

it would be fantastic on HBO as a hbo series. Then you can bring in other people like monas sister, rico brothers, gognitti, Vlad,

Yes. Absolutely. AND they should do it as a period piece - during the late 90s NYC, winter. The script has already been written - its in the game - all the producers have to do is just adapt the game, not change it, and it will be Spot On!
As for the actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, but I base it entirely on his looks and his voice, since I havent seen him in anything yet. Michael Shannon fits really well, based on the looks, voice, and his intensity, but he would have to drop his "signature aura" and make the intensity more subtle for this role.
Actually, Tom Hardy wouldnt be a bad choice either.

Benedict Cumberbatch would be a terrible Max Payne, and even though Michael Shannon is a good actor, he's too old for the part and I don't know if he could get the gritty internal monologues properly. Also, there's a reason why these types of movies try to differentiate themselves from the game. No one wants to "read" the same story twice.

Anyway, with True Detective's 2nd season coming up I doubt HBO would be interested in doing yet another detective/hardboiled cop story anytime soon.

Since my original comment, Ive seen Sherlock and the Imitation Game, and I have to agree its impossible for me to imagine Benedict in that role now :D

Why not? I would love to see the scenes/setting/atmosphere of the game re-imagined in real life. Besides, people who havent played the game wouldnt "read twice" anything.

And yes, probably, but they should hurry up a bit with the 2nd season.
