The atmosphere and cinematography was perfect for a Max Payne film. Its a shame the script, casting, and directing fell flat.
If you don't like Man of Steel, then you can giiiit out.
As a stand alone movie I actually found it quite enjoyable. As a Max Payne movie it failed on almost everything except as you said atmosphere which was perfect.

I actually think it looked pretty bad for what it was trying to do. The cinematography was pretty forgettable and if everything weren't steeped in a lot of blue grey it would not be remarked on as being cool looking. There were a few really cool shots here and there, a few scenes that worked, but overall it was like a movie that didn't feel noir except for the camera filter.
