Why were the priests evil ?

I don't get why the people who helped Damien's birth were priests. Like aren't priests supposed to be good people?
Example why would a priest help bring the son of the devil into the world???
Then he's all burned up and living in a monetary ?
And was the nanny always evil? Did she come to the house evil? Or did she become evil after spending time with Damien?

The men were not true priests. in order to trick Thorn into taking Damian as his own they pretended to be priests and in the service of God. Perhaps these men at one time could have been regular priests who just fell to the darkside who knows. And yes the nanny was already evil when she came to the house. Her job was to watch over and protect Damian from those who might try and harm him. Also here is the reason why the priest at the beginning of the movie wound up burned and living in the monestary. Supposedly right after Damian was given to Thorn a fire started in the hospital and killed many people and he barely survived. After this he wanted to try and repent so he went to do penance at the monestary. Supposedly him almost being burned to death was punishment for giving the antichrst to Thorn.

wow thank you! that makes everything really clear for me! haha I get it. kinda makes me suspicious about what kind of priests they got in italian hospitals now tho lol ill never go there to have my baby haha

Ha ha what is also funny(well not funny ha ha but funny creepy) is that in Italy supposedly there are a lot of satanic cults supposedly. Or thats what I heard somewhere. Its the heart of catholicism and satanism.

what?! thats crazy, so how is it possible they get their...idk diplomas/licenses (idk the terminology sorry) to be priests if theyre psyco satanist?? >.<!!

note to self: don't trust italian priests

reply

What I believe is that these people were probably at one time originally good and real priests so thats why they had a license. Somehow or another down the line they fell into satanism somehow.

The priest that was burned was paying out his penance, for turning away from god...It says so in the book and in the first original film...

The book definitely answers more questions. It also gives background info on Father Brennan(except in the novel he was Father Tassone). I'm not spoiling much so I'll give some info. He apparently went on a mission in Africa and had a sexual relationship with a african male. I can't remember if he turned away from god because he was rejected because of this or if the sexual relationship happened after he turned away from god. Anyway when the the african tribe found out about the relationship if I remember correctly they tortured the man and skinned him alive. Anyway(I think this is how it happened I don't have the book in front of me) it kind of describes how the priest joined the satanic cult. Later on after taking part in bringing satan's son into the world he begins to have nightmares of the african man(or boy can't remember) being tortured so he wants to redeem his soul.

In the tv series "Apparitions" we come across at least one priest who is actually a Satanist. And I don't mean "opposed to all Christian values" Satanist, but rather a "I serve Satan" Satanist. How better to do the devil's work than within the Church itself.

(What I loved about "Apparitions" is that they actually gave the priest a sympathetic reason for his position. They even take a stab at giving the demons a sympathetic angle at one point.)

It's naive to that that you can't just pretend to believe in a religion and become a priest or (even easier) cease to believe in your religion and remain a priest anyway.

That still doesn't make much sense. The priest that was stalking Robert had the 666 birthmark. It was said that the devil's apostles will have this. If this is the case, why is he helping Robert and trying get Damian killed?
Same could be said of the priest that arranged the child swap and got burned later. Why did he help Robert later? This just doesn't make any sense.

They had a change of heart and felt guilty, and turned back to the side of good. At least the one who was impaled in front of the church. I'm a little unclear on the one who arranged the "adoption." (Yeah I know this is more than a year since the last post.)
