For those that never saw the original a a question.

This is for people who never saw the original and watched this. In watching the movie up until the point where they actually discover the jackal in the grave did anyone else wonder or think that Mrs. Baylock was actually the biological mother of Damian(yes she was a little old but its still possible). For those totally unfamiliar with the movie I wonder about this. Yes we hear the priest tell Thorn that its mother was a jackal but that could be interpreted metaphorically not literally. Mrs. Baylock clearly was a jackal personality wise and when she first sees Damian she has an expression like she is extremely attached to him(although it just turns out its love for her demon god). It would make sense that she would be willing to give over her own biological son for a few years if it meant putting him in a influencial political family to rise from then returning as the nanny secretly planning to take over as the mother. I remember when I saw this in the theater during that scene where she first sees Damian someone whispered out loud "Damian's mother" or something close to that. So I wondered if anyone who had been unfamiliar with the movie ever wondered this?

Actually me and my wife had the idea AFTER the grave was exhumed. I mean, seriously, a jackal? A newborn is too big for a jackal. Plus, there must have been a real person named Maria (Maria!!!), otherwise why fake a grave? The jackal was probably part of a ritual or something and disposed in her fake grave.

That's what we thought and still think. It may make not much sense but the alternative doesn't make much sense either.

No. We took her for what exactly she was, a devil's minion disguised as a nanny to do evil and protect Damian. It was her delivery of the line, "Have no fear, little one, I am here to protect thee..." that leads us to believe she is a watcher.

Mia Farrow....meh. she wasn't creepy or scary at all and didn't bring the myster to the role that was needed.

Swing away, Merrill....Merrill, swing away...
