2019 Week 10 - Semi-Finals

Semi-finals already?! No, too soon!

Not sure about the cold open, a fake commercial. Didn't find the humor that was supposed to be in it. Seemed a half-hearted attempt.

Things between Len and Gleb got a little heated there for a moment. "Wow, you stamped your feet." That usually doesn't happen. Gleb ought to realize that when Len is giving the master class he had better listen. Meanwhile, no idea how Lauren managed to dance so well in that long velvet skirt. Agree with Erin that it's the best she's looked though. At least Len didn't penalize them for the choreography.

Agree with Erin that Carrie Ann looked great in silver too.

Who knew Bruno could sing? Amazing. Things you find out after so many seasons. Should put him on The Masked Singer. Found Kel's tango a little slow and lackluster somehow. Maybe the wrong song for dancing tango? Carrie Ann's right probably that he has progressed the furthest. Only the 9 paddle has been used tonight so far.

Just realized: where is the promised Cher? Did she cancel? No mention.

Not sure why Ally is practically crying after her dance. Wonder what else is going on in her life. Ah, at last a couple of 10s.

It got pretty real between Hannah and Carrie Ann in the master class. But with good results! Though still trying to cross into 10.

Wow, James started the dance looking just like one of the pro guys dancing beside him. He's really embraced the whole thing and become very good. I knew Len wasn't going to like that sliding stuff. Carrie Ann seems very critical tonight. Keeps going on about posture when the other judges haven't even mentioned it. James' scores at 8s seemed too low.

Nice to see that longer dances are back this week.

Weird that Erin is interviewing Lauren as if she's leaving. Actually the person in danger may be James because of those 8s.

Nice to see that Kel's dance meant so much to him. Good message. Len didn't say anything; just stood and applauded. I am expecting good numbers. And yes, 10s across the board. Don't envy whichever couple has to go next.

Ally knows about Benny Goodman! Cool! The Charleston is actually earlier than the song they're doing it to, and the dance looked more like Swing at times, but a very fun routine. Perfect score again. Hard to see her going home tonight.

Felt very sad at the story from James this week. Must be tough for him. I don't even see how he manages to perform. 9s across the board. Suspect he needed 10s.

I bet before they start the show production asks all of them for a list of their favorite songs. It cannot be a coincidence that every time they learn of their song this week they say "Oh, I love that song!".

Hannah's Contemporary is my favorite dance of hers. Sometimes a person is just really good for a particular style; this one might just be hers. I would have ventured a 10 for this, but she did get 9s across the board. I see Emma just had the same thought.

I can see how this bottom two is going to go, probably on a split decision that will require Len. Funny that the two pros are married to one another. Carrie Ann was so overwhelmed that she couldn't even articulate her reasoning. But it was because of tonight's dancing. Otherwise it's difficult to say one was better than the other for the entire season. Ally is clearly very sweet, wanting to give up her chance for someone else. Never seen that before. Really unfortunate that she isn't liked more. I know, most of the voters are women, but still, she's dancing really well and deserves a vote or two. I wonder if the Spicer votes have gone to the two southern women...

Well, it's a very disappointing result, and I bet if not for the news in his life that this would not have happened. But what can you do. At least he was with us this far.

Looking forward to a fun final. It's Ally's to lose.

It does seem too soon to end, doesn't it?

Yeah, the opening was pretty dumb, and too bad about Cher. That would have been interesting.

But it was quite a night. So sad, but had such beauty. I loved the dresses and the emotional choreography brought tears. They're all talented, but I figured Lauren would have gone home before James. Will the judges pick the winner?

reply

Yes, seems like it was just a week or two ago that it started. I suppose it will hit me how log it's been going when they bring back all the past contestants.

Yeah, agree. Quite a night.

Not totally sure how the winner is chosen, but have been guessing the judges select, just to be consistent with the rest of the season. Will be interesting to find out!

I just read Cher is supposed to be on the finale.

reply

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!
