2019 Week 3 - Movie Night (spoilers)

It's Movie Night. Or is it? They don't even bother anymore to announce which movie the dance is referencing. So what's the point?

The show seems to be catering to Spicer. Each week they give him one of the less challenging types of dances.

Ally seems to have reached a plateau, unable to score any better this week than last. Not sure exactly what she needs to reach 9. Some fancy tricks perhaps.

Kel did a good job, finally breaking out of the pack.

Leah Remini as a judge is probably too much for a lot of people, but i enjoy the way she pokes holes in the pomposity. Keeps things real. They should have an aftershow that she hosts.

Kate is good and works hard, but the Argentine Tango wasn't ever really going to be her dance. Carrie Ann worries too much about facial expressions though, especially in week 3. Let them figure out the feet first.

Didn't really understand Carrie Ann saying they were out of sync. That's really a critique of Emma because the celeb is supposed to do whatever and she should just copy him. But why critique a pro? As well, I don't think Carrie Ann understood that the bit at the start wasn't meant to be in sync. He did his bit and then Emma followed by doing her bit. Maybe Carrie Ann feels a bit weird having her co-hosts from The Talk there...

Hannah's dance was problematic in multiple ways. So many fast flashing lights didn't go well with the slow way she was taking the steps. Those lights were rather distracting as well -- hard to see the dance. Her skirt seemed way too long to be able to dance in as well. But she got huge numbers anyway.

Lamar might have been okay in his dance if he'd had more to do. What he did do looked all right.

Interesting to see that Rumer Willis still knows enough about dancing to give pointers.

Carrie Ann's lift police thing continues to baffle me. Not even the stickler Len gets into that. He ensures integrity of the dance in a positive way, saying "I wanted to see more of this or that basic move". But somehow Carrie Ann insists on going into this negative stuff that nobody but she cares about.

Len and Leah were hilarious when he pretended to give a 5 that was actually a 7!

Surprised to see Cheryl Burke sitting in the audience.

Tag line: "And I want to thank all of the judges for not beating each other up."

Movie night used to be so fun. They used to go all out with the sets and costumes, didn't they? I agree with you on Leah. Her personality rubs some people the wrong way, but I think she's a hoot.

reply

I wonder if they're enacting budget cuts... on the other hand they keep creating new sets.

Yes, remember when she competed? Her dance parodying the judges was one of the funniest ever.

reply

Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that!

Happily still on youtube!

Unfortunately did not include the judges' reactions, but they loved it.

That's great! My husband said "Is that when dwts was fun?". I said yes.

LOL!

It’s just been bland so far. The zest is gone.

Hoping it can still get better. Disney Night is usually pretty good, for example.
