Jeremy Davies Ruins This (and every) Movie

Jeremy Davies is one of the least talented actors around, and he single-handedly manages to ruin every film (or at least scene) that he appears in.

In every movie, he plays the same twitchy persona with the same halting speech, flapping arms, and zig-zagging fingers. He seems to think that going through these same gestures is a convincing portrayal of insanity. It would be a fine act for a circus freak, but it gets tiresome when dragged from movie to movie. It's especially noticeable when he's cast opposite people like Bale and Zahn who can actually act.

i was really hoping he wound die an agonizing death but it didnt come. i'll just have to make them up in my head movies.

But this head movie makes my eyes rain

I am Jack's complete lack of surprise

I watched some of the featurettes on the DVD, and he's basically playing himself in the movie, if a bit exaggerated. In reality, he does seem to be obsessed with psychology and alternative philosophies and a lot of other things not to do directly with acting. And that's fine, except that language and delivery just permeates through him, and in so similar a way to every character he plays, that I am quite comfortable thoroughly disliking him from now on.

He joins Justin Long at the top of the list.

But he's Daniel Faraday!

Directors see him as easy to cast as a head-case to provoke viewers, but he is so annoying that he makes films unwatchable. When he first enters this film talking through a wall and I recognized his voice, I was filled with dread. Next time I will save myself the agony and just stop watching when I see his name in the credits.

Amazing how thin-skinned some people are with their ignore lists. You say a bad word about their favorite actor/actress/etc, and they can't take it.

reply

Maybe he ignored you because since your opinion varies so much from his that he doesn't need to read anything else you write...

I hate IMDb sometimes! They are never any when you need it.

In response to absolutely *beep* ridiculous notion that he ruins every movie he's in, one word...

Ravenous.

*beep* all y'alls.

Luck has never been pushed as much...the sun felt good on your sweater.

I didn't like him in this at all. He played Charles Manson in a TV remake of Helter Skelter a few years ago and I can't tell the difference in the two characters.

reply

I absolutely agree. He's just one annoying dude.

Exactly! That was my exact thought... Kind of funny in a weird way...

Yes it's a pity we never find out what happened to Eu/gene after he stumbles off into the jungle alone with the machine gun muttering to himself "where am I gonna go?" over and over. I can only conclude he was eventually re-captured or killed or he starved to death. The real pity is we don't actually get to see his annoying ass expire.

His character "Upham" in Saving Ryan was also incredibly annoying and I usually skip the maddening scene where he leaves the guys upstairs without ammo and totally wimps out and lets them die. But I'd also say it's one of the more intriguing characters in the movie as he finally realises a semblance of bravery and shoots that German guy in the name of justice. Still it was unconvincing how scared of him those remaining troops were when they all had loaded guns in their hands. F'ing pussy.

i agree, i wanted him to die i was hoping bales character would kill him when they were arguing after the shootout.

omfg i cant stand this guy in any movie.

reply

Davies was so much better than Bale in this. Bale overacted like crazy in some scenes and in others he was just plain goofy.

reply

Agreed, he's a one-trick pony and his trick is getting old.

I saw this film twice with my brother and we both agreed that Jeremey Davies was the most memorable thing in the film. His performance is haunting. He is not a one trick pony. He certainly has a unique manner, but that's what makes him engaging.
