Rescue Dawn: The Truth

I am a big fan of further reading about a movie after I see it. This website is fascinating in the fact that it clears up some of the misconceptions about the film. It also helps to shed a more realistic light on Eugene who in the film is greatly misrepresented. They have an interview with 2 of the actual POWS as well. The film however is still moving even after learning the truths. But I feel that in honor of those who have been through the actual events it is respectful to know what really happened.

Wow, after reading that page, it seems like the director is the usual piece of garbage we often hear about. Too bad the movie wasn't more like the truth. It would have been more interesting.

Just say no to hugs.

Yes. Given how far the movie deviates from the truth, Herzog should have given all the characters fictional names. Instead he perpetrates a vicious smear of real individuals who endured years of imprisonment, squalid living conditions, starvation, torture and separation from loved ones.

Yet....even after enlarging the role of Dieter in the whole escape en defaming the character of especially Gene, Herzog still managed to portray Dieter as an annoying prick whom I had trouble sympathising for. Attrocious, really!!

reply

Also sounds like the gene character is annoyed at how he was portrayed and is trying to get the truth out

The 13 page story by Psidhi called "Story of escape" is a truely good read.

As i read it, i was thinking...why the hell didnt they just make the movie word for word what the survivors said happened, it would have still been a great movie, probably even better.

the more i read about the truth the more i dislike the notion of the film. Herzog doesnt gain my respect for what he did with the movie, purely a bad decision and for Bale to be credited with the writing leaves me with dissapointment on his behalf as well.

reply

that was a good read.

it would have been a very good movie.. showing all people as they were.

It was not very good treatment of all the POW's.

Note: the controls on that web site are not working. I tried two browsers and still could not read below half-way through the 2nd paragraph.

Be sure to proof your posts to see if you any words out
