Another sensational British film that very few have even heard about.
I watched Let Him Have It for the for the hundreth time yesterday, its one of my all-time favouite films, and its always annoyed me somewhat how so many people have never hever heard of it, let aone ssen lt, Sadly British films get very little publicity and are generally extremely understated.
After watching Let Him Have It again, i thought i'd have a little look on the IMDB message boards, and i noticed a few posts regarding Albert Pierrepoint and the 2005 movie about the man, and thats the first time it came to my attention that there even was such a film!!
I went straight on the hunt for Pierrepoint and swiftly found a full version on Youtube, i sat down to watch it with little expectations, (although i consider myself a fairly big movie fan, where i had NEVER heard of it i presumed it would be a below average TV movie at best), and BOY was a wrong, It blew me away.
I went into the film completely blind, and although i kind of knew who Albert Pierrepoint was, i never knew anything of his backstory, i was glued to my TV from start to finish, and i'll tell you one thing, at 34yrs of age although films can upset me and make me sad, ive NEVER shed an actual tear, that was until i realised Tish was in that cell waiting to be executed, it destroyed me in ways that a film never has, the inpact was incredible, AND then the scenes following it where, Albert came home drunk and lost it, powerful POWERFUL cinema, Goosebumps on Goosebumps,
Now, after my viewing experience, i of course researched all that i could about Albert Pierrepoint, and i respect completely that a lot of the movie used a lot of dramatic license and exaggerated a Hell of a lot, but that doesnt take away from the fact that this is a BRILLAINT film, and i exprienced emotions that i very rarely experience as a movie-goer,
I just wish flicks like Pierrepoint got the acclaim and the publicity that they truelly deserve. Its such a shame, it really is.
