Does Richard Gant always overact like this?

A few years ago, I had the unfortunate chance to watch "Daddy Day Camp" at my then-girlfriend's house on TV. Being that I'm the kind of person who notices tiny details, the thing I remembered most about this POS is Richard Gant's over-the-top performance as Cuba Gooding Jr's military dad. Seems like Gant shouts all of his lines with exaggerated facial expressions. For example, during the touchy-feely moment where father and son are supposed to reconcile, Gant shouts, "I'M PROUD OF YOU, SON!" with his mouth so wide it's probably the silliest father-son reconciliation scene ever.

Being that I'm not familiar with Gant's work, I must ask: Does he always act like that?
