'That's How You Know'

I don't have time catch this every time it is on TV, but tonight I figured out the big musical number in the park is a little before an hour into the movie, in case, like me, you would at least want to catch that.

One of the great highlights of the movie. That part always makes me crank the volume.

reply

It's a very catchy song. If I miss it, then I feel robbed of a good part! XD

Oh my goodness that's the best part of the whole movie!!!!!!! I love it I love it I love it!!!!!!! I can only imagine how much time and effort had to go into that one scene, but I know for sure it was worth it. Whenever Enchanted is ever on tv I gotta watch it. I find it a shame I don't own the DVD. I really should find the DVD before it's put in the Disney Vault and I gotta wait a decade to buy it!!

reply

Agreed & agreed. That song is utterly the mutts.
Amy Adams steals the ground from under everyone's feet.
Does the Disney Vault still exist? Nooooooooooo. .

Absolutely great musical number. I tuned in the last night and this morning just in time to watch it. Marlon Saunders voice is awesome and there is just something very cool about steel drums.

Also, it's fun to watch old people dance! :-)

My rhymes are so potent that in this small segment I made all of the ladies on IMDb pregnant.

An absolute high point for me. I know Central Park, I like Central Park ... but it is not that magical, not like this. The scene helps me (and Robert) see that Giselle has some sort of magical quality -- in Real Life, musical numbers never happen like that, but in magic places like Andulasia, apparently the "I feel a song coming on!" feeling must be common.

The whole number has great colors (the electrical workers in blue, or the old fellows pulling out bright yellow flowers). And my one favorite shot in the whole film is the whole musical number parading over the bridge over the boats and the lake, with tons and tons of balloons.

(No, this was not cheap. The Trivia section says they had to wait out seventeen days to get five days of acceptable weather.)

I also find myself "enchanted" by that musical and dance segment.
The more I watch the movie, the more I like it.
Maybe it's the lack of shaky cam, jump cuts, and annoying cinematography that doomed it at the box office.

It must have cost a fortune. There were many talented professionals in that scene, dancers and musicians, and a large crew besides. The extras did not look like ordinary people either--probably hand picked professionals.

They were lucky for the fine weather.

That part was just on TV. I totally cracked up when she sent two birds to fly with a heart made from flowers to Nancy, and Robert said "What are you, crazy? They're birds! They don't know where she lives."

reply

That was pretty funny.

Maybe I'm misremembering it, but every time I picture it, I seem to recall the two pigeons taking a quick peek at each other (sort of 'did this guy just insult us?' 'lets take this to Nancy, thatll show him whos crazy') just before they head off. Maybe it was because the audience is in on the joke and knows that Giselle knows exactly what she's doing.

(Also interesting that it was "Nancy" without a last name (cuz in fairy tales we don't need the last name) and that the pigeons also knew to bring it to her work office. (the birds say " 'where she lives' ?!? It's a weekday, she's at work!" )

reply

Actually Nancy does have a last name. I don't remember exactly where it's said, but her name is Nancy Tremayne--one of the many, many, many Disney references--Lady Tremayne, of course, is Cinderella's evil stepmother.

Just like Robert and Morgan being Robert and Morgan Phillips in honor of Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty.

There's a whole long list of them at wikipedia.com.

But you definitely have the point--how did the pigeons know exactly which Nancy and where she worked? Unless they were one of the pigeons who helped Giselle clean the Phillips apartment and hung around Giselle even after Robert evicted them...

But everyone is *so* right--absolutely one of the best live musical numbers (and the fact that it's live is part of what makes it so fantastic!) ever!
