Leslye Headland and a new image for James Marsden

I'm not going to quote her exactly here. Leslye Headland is the writer/director of a new film entitled "Bachelorette." It was featured in the Sundance Film Festival last month, and Headland was interviewed as one of the publicity things for the film.
When asked about her cast, which includes Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher, Lizzy Caplan, James Marsden, Adam Scott and others, she indicated that this was her dream cast and said about Marsden something to this effect:
That when she saw him in Enchanted, she wanted to cast him in something where he says some filthy [stuff] and [acts in a forward in a sexual manner].
When James Marsden was interviewed by the same person (it was for a well-known entertainment news entity)and was told what Headland had said, he said that Leslye was very enthusiastic about [changing his Enchanted image] and - "no more Milqetoast Marsden! No more vanilla! We're going to add some color."
I can't use the exact words of either person; it wouldn't "go" here. The language was much too earthy, especially Headland's.

Can it be that a "squeaky clean" image has hurt his chances at other roles, which have more grit to them?
