I feel like Nancy and Edward were rebounds for each other...

And they deserved better than what they got. More so for Nancy than the prince considering that she's been with Robert for five years and Giselle "steals" Robert away from her. (For lack of a better word). I would have liked it much better if Edward and Nancy did not get together. And the audience should see how Giselle and Robert interact with Nancy and Edward after they defeated the witch. Like really, Nancy (who is in love with Robert) and Edward (who isn't truly in love with Giselle) almost acted like they had no hard feelings towards Giselle and Robert.

I dunno their animated wedding was so adorable at the end...and Nancy makes the prettiest animated Princess.

I also found this weird... they were given no time to develop anything resembling a relationship. They were obviously put together for one reason only: It's Disney and everyone needed a happy ending. The audience would be mad if these two were shirked, but the story wasn't "about them" so they were given no screen time. Thus, their conclusion was abrupt and awkward and one of only 2 things I disliked about movie (the 2nd being Pip's accident which was not necessary to my mind)

Yeah I kind of understand. Really, I think it was nice that Nancy and Edward could end up together but it was just a little rushed. They could have gone to Andalasia together but not gotten married right away. I think there were some things that showed us that showed us that they were not going to end up with who they were with originally. Robert and Nancy was kind of like the Captain and the Baroness in The Sound of Music. The Baroness wasn't a bad person either and was very fond of the Captain, but it was obvious that she wanted different things. She liked the city life and wasn't one who wanted to start a family so she wasn't exactly the motherly type either. That is probably why no one minded her not being with the Captain.

reply

I just watched it and I have to put in my two cents. Yes, the Edward/Nancy thing was rushed, but I think Nancy was tired of un-fairytale like reality. She wanted a man who would send her flowers and take her to balls. Robert wasn't like that because he didn't love her. He and Nancy were together because it made logical sense, not because they were in love. Prince Edward must have seemed crazy to Nancy, yes, but if he really was from Andalasia why not go there and live happily ever after - guaranteed! All Edward knows how to do is ride horses, sing songs, say romantic things, and yes probably give flowers. In Andalasia there wouldn't be fights, imperfections, or work, and Nancy gets to be a princess. It sounds pretty good to me!

Nancy was way into romantic things. She was impressed when she received the flowers and doves and also when Prince Edward introduced Giselle as his love at the ball. She's the one who needed a prince to sweep her away to a happy ending and when the glass slipper fit her foot she got her wish.

reply

I agree, I really liked the idea of someone entering this fairytale world.

I really would love for them to be in a sequel, like maybe Edward and Nancy have kids, and then Nancy tells stories of the 'real' world which are their fairytales, they love the stories. Nancy wants to show them where she came from, and so takes them up to the real world very quickly as Edward was never comfortable in NY. She takes them up and somehow the children get lost and have to find magic somewhere in the real world to return home. Que family fun.

This would be great as it sould give a childs perspective, it would be fun!

I seem to remember hearing in an interview with James Marsden that he had a number with Idina. But no such scene was in the finale film. It would seem that, originally, there was time given to their relationship.

reply

Yeah, they originally had a duet (I swear it was called 'Enchanted', or at least had 'Enchanted' in the title), but some genius decided it was okay to cut it.

It's FISH!

reply

I think it was the right decision to cut it....i mean, Nancy was from the real world, and the real world people don't burst into song. I love Idina and would have loved hearing her sing, but for the character, it didn't make sense.

reply

James Marsden and Idina Menzel did do a song titled "Enchanted". It was supposed to play over the final credits, but it didn't follow Carrie Underwood's power ballad "Ever Ever After" well, so it was cut in favor of an orchestral reprise of the other songs in the show. (Why their duet wasn't included on the DVD I don't understand, unless it really wasn't that good?)

Most Rom-Coms don't end with scads of detail following the eventual "get together" of the two star-crossed lovers. Think "Sleepless in Seattle", for example.

I agree that Nancy and Edward's "getting together" is abrupt. There were supposed to be some other hints of it in the picture (if you have the DVD there are two "bonus track" scenes which were deleted for pacing). In one Nancy tells a co-worker "It's not as though I've been sitting around waiting for my Prince in shining armor to show up", and in the other (in the ballroom scene) she rushed to help Edward after the dragon appears and he is covered in debris.

Anyway, I'm hoping for a sequel so I can see more of Amy, my wife can see more of Patrick and James, and we can all hear Idina Menzel sing a tune or two!

reply

Aaah!! That would've been so great to see, a duet with the two of them; I love both their voices.

"Bloody Hell! Real vamps don't sparkle"

reply

I totally agree. I just didn't like the way it ended for them. I never actually found Nancy's character to be quite likable and so was sorely saddened when Edward had to marry her in the end.

In actuality I hated the movie altogether. I thought it would be reminiscent of the princess movies I grew up to but I guess they have to go with the whole modernism thing where the woman doesn't need the prince to rescue her, and falls in love with the single father guy instead (although technically he wasn't single....)

And I know a lot of people really liked it (it didn't get a 7.0 and up rating just for nothing) but I'd like to think that I wasn't the only one in the world that didn't like it. Perhaps I'm posting on the wrong thread....haha

reply

That was some hot chemistry between the lawyer and princess, especially when they were dancing.

reply

The third act all together felt so rushed... The Edward/Nancy thing went beyond cheesy, and WTF with that dragon? It seemed so blah, and Giselle fainted for like a minute only... It had potential and they screw it up.

But in defend of the Edward/Nancy thing, everybody 'fell in love' with eachother in like one day. The problem is that noone gives a crap about Nancy she was so fake and blah (probably that was the actress fault though) so that makes it more cheesy.

*Why bother*

reply

I wish that Edward and Nancy had met each other earlier, so a chemistry to build between them, rather than them just falling in love instantly so the audience doesn't feel bad.

reply

I think it was a rebound thing. I can't see a person like Nancy rusing off to get marry and not worry about her career, family, friends, and personal things. In fact, I doubt anyone would rush into something that unknowing. I like Enchanted and how it tried to incorporate some realistic aspects into the movie but the Nancy/Edward thing was EPIC FAIL! And in truth I don't see Edward getting marry to anyone that fast either.

Luckily they got married in Faerie-Tale land, so Happily-Ever-After rules apply!

She wasn't really fake. She just didn't have enough screentime for her character.

But at least Edward finally found someone equally gorgeous to end up with.

reply

That all being said, I agree that it would have been nicer to get more screentime with the two of them together. Maybe Edward runs into her while looking for Giselle? And a song would have just been wonderful! Maybe they'll add it to a "Special Edition" DVD in the extras..!

reply

If it's any help, I think there is time passing between the scenes. So presumably they did have time to get to know each other, build their relationship, etc. We just don't get to see it. Just like we don't see how Giselle ends up owning her own dress shop. We just see that she somehow does.

reply

very good point there!

reply

Well, Edward wanted to marry Giselle the next day, so maybe it's normal for him *lol*
Or in Andalusia at all.

And Nancy...well...there was a scene (it was cut…what is a pity, I think) where it was said, that she is hopeless romantic or something like that...So I guess she just waited for all this fairytale-like romantic stuff, signs and so on...and then there was the shoe and the prince *lol*

And about the wedding:
But I think amaarthi is right that there is some time passing between the scenes. I guess it took Giselle some time to open this shop and it took Pip and Nathaniel some time to write their books.

Sorry, for my English. I'm a non-native speaker...

reply

I thought they were more of a love at first sight couple. Yeah they met and Nancy was impressed, Edward was still all over Giselle, but after Giselle and McDreamy get together there's a moment where they just fall in love, just like that. It's Disney, just go with it.

reply

Though it was a good movie, it was NOT romantic because cheating never is. It's the part I didn't like about this movie - modern, real, cynical lives. And that he already had a daughter - yuck, baggage. It's just so sad and not romantic. I would have prefered a movie with just Nancy and Edward actually. This was more a dramasy for me.

A better movie than this is The 10th Kingdom.

reply

I loved Edward and Nancy. Their wedding was probably my favorite part. Anyone know where I can find their duet that was cut? It's not on the DVD. I already looked at the deleted scenes. By the way, what's The 10th Kingdom about?

reply

They didn't record it, did they? I don't know. Maybe they did.

reply

I don't know if it was so much that Nancy and Edward were rebounds, but that they were looking for the same kind of relationship. Nancy seemed to be looking for an all consuming kind of love from Robert that he obviously wasn't feeling. Robert's being with Nancy seemed more like not wanting to be alone than really being in love with her.

reply

I thought it was the coolest thing ever. D:

I'm GLAD Nancy and Edward had no ill feelings! That's what made them both awesome. They didn't get angry because they UNDERSTOOD. It was Giselle's awakening kiss from Robert that pointed it out clearly: she and Robert were always meant for each other. NancyxEdward is a great couple because they're similar to each other in wanting the same things. Rebound? They looked pretty happy to me. Plus rebounds never stay just rebounds in stories. :) I mean, look at Edward. He's a perfect (albeit goofy), charming prince; every girl's dream come true. Every girl who's single would do the EXACT same thing, especially one who's loves uberly romantic things like Nancy.

.......and you HAVE to admit, that cell phone bit was priceless. XD
