When I saw this movie in the theaters as well as on TV, the Happy Working song was so creepy to me. It wasn't the song as much as the scene it was in. Rats creep me out. Even though it's just a movie, I had to look away during the scene. And then with the daughter and father holding the rats, I was squirming so much! Ugh! And I'm from NYC so I just think about how dirty and disgusting they are, how they could be rabid! The roaches grossed me out too but not as much as the rats.
Nope, I found it hilarious (like it was supposed to be). And I adore rats. They are not dirty or disgusting. Because they are always cleaning themselves, they're quite clean. Cockroaches are far more disgusting. Not cuddly at all. lol
Well, if you're going to have the traditional 'Princess gets help from the creatures' meme, what else are you going to have in the city? Dogs and cats and confined by their owners. What is free to respond to Giselle's call? Rats, mice, roaches, flies, and pigeons.
No, I thought it was cute. It would have been stupid to see bunny rabbits and baby deer show up, wouldn't it?
I'm not saying it wasn't realistic. Yes, It makes sense that it is rats that appear and not bunny rabbits. This isn't cute pet rats we're talking about, these are NYC stray rats that roam the street. the kind that are in train stations and garbage. They're filthy and can spread diseases. That's what I couldn't stop thinking about when I saw the rats.
Actually it would be more correct to say "a few" of the rats and birds were real live animals. Many of them were CGI. The rats scubbing the toilet (and one falls in), for instance. Also the rats pushing the scrub brushes back and forth on the floor as Giselle sings to them, and likewise the line-up of rats on the couches and tables in the opening shots just before she begins singing "Happy Working Song." And the birds who carry the dishes to the cupboard (and drop one.) And the bird(s) who crash into the window when they're first coming.
Have you ever seen an NYC rat in person? I see them every day on the streets and in the subway. Their fur is not the slightest bit clean, and anyone that has come within 10 yards of one would agree.
i cant believe how can anyone enjoy this movie as a whole but keep his eyes away during the song. u r pissed off surely.... its such a cute song with the best vedio feedback it can get. even the cockroaches didnt look bad at this scene as it was so well worked out. a gr8 song and its difficult to keep eyes away from the screen. there are films where rats are deadly and people run away from them. but there are films like Ratatouille where stray rats wins the heart of the millions.rats are not supposed to be cute thats how nature wants them to be. but in this song our lovely princess asks them to help in cleaning. its funny and nice.how come it be disgusting to anyone i cant understand. nature is beautiful as it is.
All of the people that are saying rats and roaches are cute and clean must have never had any infestation problems in their homes. When you do, you will quickly change your tune. They are disgusting and unnecessary creatures.
Cats, dogs and butterflies are cute but if you had them infesting your house they wouldn't look cute anymore either. Just imagine 100 cates in a small apartment, scratching everything and marking their terrority.
Just to say that it's not the animal per se but whether they become a problem. If my house were infested by 2000 butterflies I wouldn't think they're cute either. I like rats and roaches and I wouldn't change my tune just because of an infestation as much as I wouldn't change my tune about butterflies and kitten but I wuoldn't certainly freak out if the latter infested my house
i guess it was the right thing for the director to use rats and cockroaches. if using dogs and cats, it's kinda ermmm.. predictable and no 'surprise' factor.
I didn't get to appreciate the the Happy Working Song all that much because I was laughing too hard at the rats and cockroaches doing Giselle's housework.
