I'm just a little confused about some of the logistics in regards to using Giselle as a face character in the Disney parks.

I know that they didn't want to pay Amy Adams royalties to use her likeness, so Giselle isn't in the parks.

1) So why can they use Johnny Depp's
likeness as Jack Sparrow in the parks?

2) couldn't they say that they are just imitating the animated character Giselle, instead of Amy Adams' Giselle? Or does it just circle back to the animated character is based off Amy Adams?

If this is confusing at all, let me know! It's just something I've been wondering for a while now :) thanks!

I'm not so sure on your first question, because surely Johnny Depp's life image rights would be more expensive than Amy Adams' was in 2007?

But the second, I would say that the animated character is based on Amy Adams' face, so they couldn't get away with that excuse.

It might have to do with the fact that a Disney princess is tied to not only a movie, but an extensive line of merchandising. Don't be surpised to see both Giselle and Nancy be added to the Disney princess lineup 70 years down the line when neither actress is alive.

Oh wow yes I just realised Idina Menzel is a twice Disney Princess! For Enchanted and now Frozen!

Yes, but, Elsa wasn't drawn into Idina's image.

Disney Co. with all its trillions & trillions of dollars, just did not want to payout royalties to Amy Adams, Idina Menzel, & James Marsden (Patrick Dempsey is the only one from the love rectangle that did not have an animated equivelant of himself), hence there are Disney Princess merchandise of them.

I'm not sure of the answer, but it is much easier to make someone look like Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow than someone to look just like Amy Adams. In fact, my brother's girlfriend dressed as Jack Sparrow and looked pretty close, especially for a girl!
