Amy Adams should have gotten an Oscar nod

It would have been so easy to take this character and be simply cliched, surfacey, and make fun the characters and story. However, Amy Adams took the character and made her real and committed 100%. She really should have been nominated for a best actress Oscar. Instead, they gave that slot to Kiera Knightley for her less-than-impressive portrayal in "Pride and Prejudice."

reply

Keira was nominated in 2006. Had Amy been nominated (and I agree with that she should have been), that would have occurred in 2008.

reply

Hmm, then I'm remembering things differently. Oh, well. Still stands: She should have been nominated.

reply

Agreed, she was luminous in this movie and had the "Disney princess" mimics, gestures and facial expressions down pat.

reply

I think they should have nominated her over Cate Blanchett that year.

ENCHANTED still the most under-rated movie of this century.

Amy Adams is just magical and should have WON the Oscar that year. She did her own singing, while the actual winner (Marion Cotiliard) was lip-singing.

Amy has a nice voice.

And Ironically enough, didn't Amy perform "Happy Working Song" on the Oscars?

reply

Amy did perform at one of the award shows and I remember feeling so bad for her because she looked so nervous, she looked like a deer in the headlights. I can't remember what song it was but she was on stage by herself. Her singing is nice but not as amazing as say Idina. Still, the movie is very entertaining and Amy is wonderful in it.

reply

That would have been nice, but expect for actors and actresses very rarely gets nominated for their performance in a Family movie. And I had even forgotten this myself until I was reminded by another use, that Julie Andrews was not only was nominated for her performance in Mary Poppins, but she had won the award. And I can't think of any others that have, and I can't think of any male actors that have been nominated for a performance or won the oscar for acting in a family movie. And I have never seen Kiera Knightly in Pride and Prejudice, and I don't know if I will.

Mickey77 The difference is if Marion had to sing (She his capable of it , she did it brilliantly in Nine) herself in "La vie en rose" she would have had to sound exactely like Edith Piaff and trust me , sounding like Edith Piaff is very hard and you would need months to get it right.
Marion deserved her oscar , her performance was mind blowing in LVER but I had tons of love for Amy in Enchanted as well! I dont think we should compare those two performances , they are both amazing but they are both completely from different style of film. I agree that voters seems to go more for heavy drama then family film , its a shame ...

reply

It was a good enough performance to deserve a nomination.

Its that man again!!

reply

Amy should've received the Oscar nomination instead of the overrated Ellen Page.

less-than-impressive
Lol no. Keira Knightley played that part perfectly and was equally deserving of the Oscar as Reese Witherspoon was that year.

reply

I totally agree! She did an amazing job portraying, essentially, an alien from another planet! All the small things and expressions she did. She did deserve an Oscar. But movies like this rarely get noticed. Too bad. Every time I watch this, I can't take my eyes off of her! So luminous.
Like when 'Junebug' first came out, and Amy was an unknown - who stole the film! I'd like to see that again.
And here, the little girl - now a teen, sings a song...
