AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO FELT BETRAYED BY THIS MOVIE ?

I Mean...no matter how robert fits with gizelle the writers should never bring them together cause in this way they destroyed THE BASIC RULE OF THE FAIRYTALES.

THE PRINCE AND HIS PRINCESS BELONG TOGETHER NO MATTER WHAT

Got this u perverted writers ?

So u wanna tell me that true love can not exist in the real world between a prince and his princess ?

So the princess who was IN LOVE and ready to MARRY edward she fell in love with that mortal robert just because she went to live in the real world for sometime and u wanna tell me EDWARD who was crazy about gizelle axcepted so easily that gizelle wanted robert and all of the sudden he took robert's ex fiance to marry him in his kingdom ?

WHAT A FIASCO ENDING WAS THAT ?

KNOW THIS U PERVERTS

A PRINCE AND HIS PRINCESS WILL ALWAYS LOVE EACH OTHER AND BELONG WITH EACH OTHER AND IF IN PART 2 U WON'T BRING THEM TOGETHER THEN MY WISH IS FOR YOU TO FEEL EDWARD'S WRATH BY STICKING HIS SWORD IN TO YOUR PERVERTED MINDS...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

She knew him for a day. It's exploring the fact that in fairytales a princess will marry someone after a day and not knowing them. It's turning fairy tales on it's head.

Snowhite knew her prince longer ?
She didn't and yet he resurrected her with love's first kiss.
Edwart's love's kiss should do the same but instead those writers chose to TURN BLACK TO WHITE. THAT IS THEIR PERVERSION.
Yes i know what they tried to point out but they forgot one BASIC RULE.
Gizelle was not a normal human person. Like edwart she belonged in the fairy tale's dream world so the twist they did by bringing her to the real world it shouldn't have changed the way she was thinking about things.
Remember what edwart told her when he found her ?

"MY LOVE U STOPED SINGING..."

Remember that ?
That was the way those writers chose to explain her change and falling in love with a mortal.

THEY CAN'T DO THAT.

THEY CHANGE EVERYTHING WE KNEW ABOUT THOSE THINGS SINCE WE WERE BORN.

SNOWHITE, CINDERELLA AND THE REST WILL NOT FALL IN LOVE WITH ANYONE ELSE BUT THEIR PRINCE IN THE DREAM OR IN THE REAL WORLD SINCE THEY WERE BORN IN THE DREAM WORLD NO MATTER IF THEY KNEW THEIR PRINCE FOR ONE DAY ONLY.

SAME IS WITH GIZELLE.

Really those writers must have hated the rule that a prince is belong with his princess.

What they should have done in the movie was to connect gizelle with robert and even to create A MUTUAL ADMIRATION....NOT A PASSIONATE LOVE AFFAIR.

I'M NOT ONE OF THOSE WHO STOPPED THINKING AND AXCEPTING ANY NEW BULL THING THEY SERVE ME AND THIS TWIST THEY MADE WAS BULL.

Bravo, OP! I agree with you completely---the ending stunk, for all the reasons you said!

Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!

Actually, if you read the original fairy tales, (and ones that Disney didn't do) the Princess often ends up with someone who isn't a prince.
In the original Little Mermaid, the mermaid DOES NOT end up marrying the Prince. He falls in love with something else and she ends up becoming, basically, an angel (a spirit who watches over those who love).
In the Dancing Princesses, the youngest princess ends up with the hero, a mercenary knight.
In tale after tale, the Princess ends up with the youngest of three princes, rather than the oldest and most brave because he's the one that's cunning, or kind, or honest.

oh c'mon footnotegirl you know i meant with someone from....THE DREAMWORLD THEY BELONG. Most of the times is a prince. not all the times but that doesn't matter.
he is from the dreamworld.

Amen. I don't think these kids have any idea how uneducated they look when they swarm in all foot stomping and caps locking and growling and huff puffing. They don't understand the source material for fairy tales. They don't understand the original PURPOSE of fairy tales. It has nothing to do with living in a dream world and everything to do with survival in the real world.

So much information, right at their fingertips, but so little actually entering their brain. I bet they think watching Aladdin is "doing research".

I feel like this is a troll post. (Given the repeated unneeded and inaccurate use of the word "pervert", the other-the-top use of ALL CAPS, and the fact it completely and utterly misses the point of the film.)

But just in case it isn't a troll post... The whole idea behind the film is to both pay tribute to and brutally satirize the concept of a classic Disney film and fairy-tales at large. The purpose of the love story is to go against the norm and question if the Prince and Princess are always right for eachother. Just as in real life, love isn't always a perfect beast of two perfect people, as is implied by fairy tales. (Sometimes the bombshell ends up falling in love with the fat, klutzy guy in real life. Sometimes the ultra-conservative pessimist man will fall in love with a spiritual, New Age, Liberal Hippie woman in real life. Sometimes the straight-A student who lives her life by logic will fall in love with a complete dope who isn't quite mature. Etc.) Love is more complex than just "Pretty Princesses" and "Dashing Princes."

I don't think you should fault the film for doing something new, especially as it is clearly highly satirical, tongue-in-cheek and broadly serves as parody at times. The fact that the Princess with a pure, squeaky-clean view of love ends up falling for a weary divorce lawyer sort of tells you everything you need to know.

And it's shown over the course of the film that both Giselle and Robert change, even down to their wardrobe. Giselle is able to evolve into a more thoughfull, complex, modern woman who embraces both her fairy tale demeanor and a real-world mindset. (Just look at the wonderful scene where she experiences anger for the first time.) Whereas Robert is able to loosen up and adopt a more fun-loving attitude and a bigger sense of adventure, essentially becoming the perfect "Prince" for Giselle.

Whereas Edward, the literal prince, just isn't right for Giselle, and instead finds love with Nancy, who is clearly better for him.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

Alright, so now you're bringing in religion and some really upsetting homophobia, whilst still ignoring the fact that the film is clearly designed to be blatant self-parody, with strong elements of satire and homage, that by very intent and design goes against the norm at times.

Yup, you're clearly a troll whose just here to annoy people.

I think i made a clear statement dude.
Where did u read that i was talking about...."homophobia".....like u said ?
Personally i don't have anything against those people.
In my opinion a person is free to do whatever he/she want in his bed.

WHAT I SAID IS.....FOR THE CHURCH......HOMO-PEOPLE ARE SICK AND SINNERS.
FOR THE CHURCH U TROLL (I'm returning that lame remark to you). NOT FOR ME.

To end this i will clear one more time that in my opinion a prince belong with his princess in the fairytale dreamworld.
I don't doubt that they tried to do what u said (parody-satire...etc) BUT STIL FOR ME THIS "SATIRE" WAS AN INSULT TO MY BELIEFS.

...you need Jesus

I'm going to hope that you are in fact a troll, and not just a dumbass.

Call the OP whatever you like, but I totally agree with what she (or he?) tried to say here. I know that this movie was supposed to be a "parody" of "love at first sight" trope. But I see three problems with that arguement.

1: Disney hadn't really used "love at first sight" trope since "The Little Mermaid", so there was no need to make a contrived paraody of it, when they had spent eighteen years making a good number of more realistic love stories. And to be honest, even Ariel and Eric had to spend some time together and fight for each other before they could have a happy ending.

2: Giselle also came from a fantasy country, where it clearly was natural that you could get married after only knowing each other for only one single day. While that sounds stupid in real life, it can work in fairy-tales.

3: And it wasn't even a good parody of the "love at first sight" trope, because it was handled so badly. Because when Giselle chooses Robert over Edward, we the viewers are supposed to think "aw, she has found real love". But I see nothing in this movie, that shows that Giselle is more than a flake, who can easily leave Robert for yet another "love of her life" one week later. Ugh...

Giselle becomes really unlikable to me, even though we're supposed to see her as a good heroine. And just how forced was it to have Edward and Nancy hook up with each other? WTF? Nah, I simply hate this movie!

Intelligence and purity.

Let's not fool ourselves here. Fom the moment they meet, you know Giselle and Robert are going to end up together, it's the whole point of the story. But your last point is dead on. You can also easily guess that the classical (and very cliché) resolution for this whole situation would be for Edward and Nancy to fall for each other. But you'd hope it would ait least have some sort of build up. Instead it's just nonsensical sudden love. Just plain silly. It really ruined a lot of it for me. Too bad because I enjoyed most of this film...

Actually, I would only have believed that if the Prince showed some sign of disinterest in the film. But, for the majority of the film, up until they meet, both just want to get back to each-other and THAT was the point.

So, the writers could have easily kept that line of progression in-tact, which would have kept us believing in Fairytales, had they just made Robert a friend to Giselle, but no, they had to throw it all out the window by making them more than that. Stupid and unnecessary to the film---esp. as another poster pointed out, Giselle had flowers sent to Robert's lady. So, there was no reason why everyone couldn't end up with who they were with in the first place.

The whole movie---esp. the ending---was PC, cynical, contrived, feminist, post-modern clap-trap!

Giselle isn't a princess. She lives in a tree in the forest. There you go. No more whining.

So Cinderella, Belle and Tiana are only princess by marriage.

And the reason you felt the need to scream at us like a banshee is because ...

Lighten up! It's a movie! I, for one, am very happy that Giselle ended up with Robert. Why? Because their love was true. Edward and Giselle, on the other hand, were merely infatuated with each other.

But I guess you'd rather see Giselle and Robert end up heartbroken and settling for people they didn't love, just so you can get your precious, overused fairytale ending.

No, thank you! I'll pass on that ending. Bring on the ending that's somewhat original! At least everyone ends up happy.

Well, except for Narissa. She just ends up dead.

reply

".....they end up with people they didn't love....."

EXACTLY MY POINT......Giselle shouldn't love robert but only her true fairytale prince like it happened with snowhite, cinderella....etc.....
those pervert writers to try and change what we knew all those years......IS DISGUSTING////////// THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING HERE.....

Der, you don't have "a point" just a rather childish outlook on movies.

And as to your silly "pervert" ranting, you should grow up a little bit.

Promise you will at least try, you may even like acting like an adult....

I like the twist ending (if you're going by "ye olde rules of fairy tales"). And would you prefer to see Edward & Nancy end up broken-hearted and alone? Not very "ever after" for them. This way, everybody's happy. Even the help, Nathaniel and Pip. Except for Narissa, but she's evil. And what princess fights for her prince? Another nice twist!
