Great film. Could have been better but Amy Adams is amazing!
I took my then girlfriend to see this in 2007. There was no-one in the theatre except us and I came out really liking it and she hated it.
I watched it again just there after about ten years and I've gone from liking it to pretty much loving it. Amy Adams is just tremendous and she's made that character 100% her own which is a really hard thing to do. What got me was how good I felt just when her character was on screen. Her innocent charm was intoxicating and it was just good to see someone so "nice" in a movie.
My main gripe was that Giselle lost a little of that happy innocence towards the end of the film and for no real reason either. That was a little sad as seeing a little cynicism creep in to such a pure character was almost like a defeat. I don't think she needed that to realise that Edward was a bit of a prance.
The tone of the third act almost completely changed too. The songs stopped and, Giselle didn't really seem herself and it all felt rather rushed, especially the final confrontation on top of the building.
Also as much as I think the film's parts were competently put together I do think a director with a little more flare could have elevated it a bit as the whole thing is basically propped up by Adam's superb performance.
Can't complain though. The songs are great, the concept is good and I hope there will be a sequel as it's long overdue.
