No 83 on The Times' Top 100 Films of the Noughties
My girlfriend and I are watching through all the top 100 films of the noughties as published by The Times and this was at number 83.
As someone from Belfast, i've always tried to avoid films about either the troubles or the conflict in general. I've always thought these films portrayed the IRA as glorious freedom fighters, ignoring the fact that they were terrorists and murderers no matter how noble their cause, and the first half of this film didn't do much to change my opinion.
However, i thought the second half of the film was much better... removing the British 'baddies' and making it much more ambiguous as to who was in the right was more interesting, particularly with brothers split on each side.
