What's up with the song reference?
This is also the title of a Simon And Garfunkel song, it can't be a coinscidence, does the movie have anything in common with the song or did the writer just like the catchy and beautiful title?

shareNot a coincidence. One of the plot threads deals with a reclusive author - think J.D. Salinger - penning a novel titled 'The Only Living Boy in New York.' The story's protagonist befriends the author as the tale unfolds... begins to get the feeling that he's the subject of the legendary writer's new book.
I don't remember if the song itself is discussed during the story, if it's a question of the characters knowing it by inference... I think it was used as the script's title b/c a lot of people immediately recognize the song and will be intrigued as a result. It's a brilliant read... one of the two or three most enjoyable screenplays I've ever come across, but the film seems to have stalled in development.
That's what I was wondering, only for some reason, I was thinking The Smiths, not S&G. Surely, they'll play the song in the movie at least once, because it's a good song.
But then again there was the slightly awful movie, What a Girl Wants with Amanda Bynes years ago, and I'm pretty positive they never played the song by Christina Aguilera.
It's like being inside a dream or something.. There's truth, but no logic.
i wish the guys who used to post about their thoughts on the script a couple of years ago come back to this board. Would love to hear more about the storyline and the characters. Seth Gordon's been directing episodes of Modern Family, Community and Parks and Rec. He also has Horrible Bosses coming up so I'm curious about his possible take on this indie quirky dramedy-romance
Reports have it that production begins in the fall. Maybe this board will liven up a bit by then
Looking forward to a killer soundtrack.

I dunno, but that song is killer (would love to have sex to it one day). Maybe the movie will be the same way lol.

The plot is reminiscent of THE GRADUATE which was full of Simon & Garfunkel songs. Seems like an homage or reboot of that film. Coincidentally the author and this film's director have the same last name, but I assume they arent related (the author's sons are John and David).
