Great people in this Documentary

I think it was very kind of Knox-Johnson to give his winnings to Donald's widow. I also think it was incredible that Motissier dropped out of the race, avoiding people for a few more months, something I'd love to do lol!
As for Donald, he was a poor soul in over his head. I think he drank salt water and went crazy, or maybe contaminated food. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did.

I completely agree with you, haynes, about Knox-Johnson giving the whole of his winnings to Donald's family:
what a noble thing to do, and something I expect would be far more unlikely a gesture made today.

I hadn't thought about the possibilities of salt water drinking or contaminated food eating as causing Crowhurst's decline, but those conjectures are certainly credible. Amazing, isn't it, how this sort of test categorically reveals the true nature of the humans who face them? At the same time, it puts in perspective the domestication of other erstwhile challenges: climbing Everest, for example, has now become just another Sotheby's-sponsored congé de luxe.

Knox Johnson was great. that French guy choosing the sea above he's family was kinda stupid. The man whojournalist who sold the logs when he said he wouldn't tell anyone what happened was a douche though.

Yeah, this really made me like Knox-Johnston and I completely agree about that journalist being a douche.

The guy leaving his family to continue sailing kind of annoyed me. I mean, it's cool that he was doing what he wanted, but he shouldn't have had a family in the first place if he wanted to escape them and be on his own. Once you make the choice to have a family, you have to be responsible. I did like how his wife seemed to be understanding of him though.
