Drag Me Away (From You)
Where to start... I like it was a Sam and Dean episode, but I don't understand why the keep doing fillers mixed in with 5 minutes of weak build up to the end (?)
I like the idea of going back to a young Dean and Sam, but I didn't fully buy the year and the ages of the boys, especially Dean. 1993, I would assume Dean is 14 here and Sam would be 9 or 10. But I kind of wish they were 8 and 12 in 1991 as they both look at that age. Caitlin and Travis also look in that age range. The one boy who played a younger Dean in the earlier seasons was more Dean than the kid who portrayed a younger Dean in this episode. Young Sam didn't have much to do in this episode, but his portrayal was just OK. I like the "idea" of the case, unfortunately it didn't seem to tell us much or go anyway with it.
We barely learned anything about this witch thing. I was really hoping we'd get a nice parallel of back then and now. We mostly tip toed around anything and everything to give us a decent well rounded mystery/story of the witches lore. Like the last episode, it felt like many details within the case was missing. Why is the witch thing back now? Because Travis showed up with the ring? Who told him to go back and why? Why did the witch appear as a young Travis and then a young Dean, but then appear to Caitlin and Dean as a dead older Travis...why change the pattern? If this thing is SO hungry, why did it only kidnap Caitlin? Also, the ring story didn't make much sense. Caitlin said their mother gave it to Travis, or was that Travis lying after taking the ring after Young Dean cut it off spirit witch(?) Dean seriously just ignored the ring on the ground??? Are these stories puzzles now? We must connect the dots ourselves? Overall, it was OK, but so slow, very little details like they used to.
Then there's Billie's appearance. It served no purpose. I don't understand why she's sharing her "this is as far as I go in the books" - I would think you could change that Billie, but your neutral, however you're still giving small details. And why would she be upset if Dean didn't tell Sam about Jack's bomb yet. "Everyone has to be on board" well, you didn't tell them Billie, so why should you push it? It feels so forced. You could argue with me that Billie cant intervene, but she has been, preparing Jack to kill Chuck, is intervening. Talking to Dean is intervening.
This season is like Once Upon a Time Season 7. It's not all that good, it's not like it used to be, it makes very little sense, there's some familiar faces still around, but it's something.
