S15 - Back and to the Future
I see people keep referring this episode to "The Beginning of the End" - sure, it is, but not the title..though I wonder if this "title" is going to come into play in the season/an episode.
I thought it took off well, even though it seemed there were way more ghost zombies in the finale last season. For them to just run off, was a tad weird imo. Sam, Dean and Cas have taken out many ghosts/creatures, but here they need to run. I'm guessing it's because "killing" these things wasn't working. The problem for me was, things weren't explain well. It felt very chaotic and I guess Dabb can't write "his"... I mean the guys way out of there. I thought it was weird Cas took Jack's body with them. I'm sure it was to give him a proper hunter funeral at some point, but the real reason is so he can be possessed by a demon. Like I said in my other post, I didn't like Alex playing this character. It felt like Dabb putting in a smart ass fan in with the boys and forcing to keep Alex around with them, instead of giving us loss - I know it's not Jack, but it's lingering the actor to fully stay. Not much shock. Maybe if Belphegor was evil, or betrayed the boys half way through it would've thrown in some kind of wtf moment, but no, it looks like he's going to be rolling with them into Episode 3.
They pass around half ass ideas, but wait, Belphegor, knows how to get out with a spell. Even though "Jack" isn't around, it's his character that is still their baby Angel to save the day. I just thought this whole thing was pretty ridiculous. I really wanted them to kill every last one of them, but not with a spell. Felt too easy and a bit slow.
I cant stress enough how stupid these ghosts looked in broad daylight. The clown had his creepy moments, but the zoom in on Constance I thought were bad and Bloody Mary looked SO horrible. I thought it was a bad idea to have her come out of water, like she's Samara.
The acting in this, boy. The teens that got killed by Bloody Mary were cringe worthy. The lady and her kid, who didn't show much fear to me by the way. When they were running and Sam picked her up, she just looked so bored, she couldn't wait for lunch or something. Dean plays piss off was too much, I know he's a bottled up guy, but there was time for him to talk about whats happening and they choose to make it about Jack is our kid and Dean's time in hell brought up.
I liked the second spell that Belphegor did (Yep he did TWO spells..what is the point of bringing in Rowena now?). Belphegor dialogue choice was bad imo. Maybe it was Alex's acting that others have been praising so much, but there were times where I thought, here is good potential and it was so disney-childish, so over the top, made me roll my eyes more than laugh.
The boys in FBI jackets and their talk at the end was good. Sam's bullet wound from the gun is questionable. Cas not being able to heal it and given one of them flashes of the future? Of an evil Sam, possibly killing or knocking out Dean? I thought that was interesting and curious to see where it goes. But it's very unclear was it Cas or Sam that saw that? I want to assume it was Cas because of his reaction. I really like the title card. If I had to rate it, it would be a 6-6.5/10, Fair.
