I'm still in my rewatch and think there are more ways to rank the seasons. I see people be so biased because Cas isn't in Season 7, so that's why they put it last. Things like that, I don't get, like maybe if I was a teenager, that's how I would rank them.
But Season 4 & 5 are in my top spots with Season 9 and 10 in the bottom....but I have a feeling Season 12 will join them.
This gets harder and harder each year because we add another season to the ranks. I am surprised at season 2 being so low down. I can never choose between 5, 4 and 2 and I always love season 1 so much because of Kim Manners work. Later seasons are trickier to rank, because the writing in parts wasn't so strong as those earlier seasons and particularly since we lost the likes of Ben Edlund, Raelle Tucker, John Shiban, Catheryn Humphris, to name a few of my favourite past writers, including Sera Gamble, Robbie Thompson and Andrew Dabb in his early days. Present writers are strong, and can tell a good believable strong story and the feeling of a strong bond between the brothers which is what we all love to watch. But I can't help but bond between those very early writers. Because they knew how to write horror and how to scare you stupid. I can still never watch Bloody Mary, as it was so damned scary, and got in my head.
I love this current team don't get me wrong, with the likes of Bob Berens, Brad Buckner, Meredith Glynn, Steve Yockey, to name a few. I wonder why our writers sometimes are not praised enough, as you don't see so many awards or acknowledgements for them?
I like what you said about the early writers. I feel the early seasons have some amazing scary episodes.
I'm actually struggling ranking the seasons from 1-14, because I've been rating each episode out of 5 and add all of them up to see the average of the season and the results are very surprising. It has to do with the mow vs. mythology vs. the meta episodes, so I feel it's very, very hard to rank. And like you said, each year a new season comes. I just feel I'm going to have like 5 ranking versions by the time I'm done...sounds ridiculous, but I ..cant help it.
I don't like to rank seasons based on if a character is, or isn't in it, or if someone dies, I don't think that's fair. I mean, it's fine if people want to do that, but I'd prefer to rank by stories. But I will admit that some characters I cant stand like Claire, it's hard to sit through her THREE episodes in season 10...but I think I'll save that for my Season 10 post. I've been looking at others ranks and majority have Season 5 #1 and Season 6 and 7 are "tied" at the end/least liked. I saw a few have 11, 10, or for you 8 at the bottom
That really, really surprised me with Season 1 with 60% because that season had some of the best wicked storytelling out of the whole 14 years. The mind boggles when people vote, about what they really are thinking about? I also really have to think about those later seasons, like 12,13,14 as nothing for me really jumped out at me, and said I loved it. Pleased at 8 being at the bottom apart from Purgatory as it was the best thing to come from that season.
I really expected Season 6 and 7 to be lower with how much people are displeased by them. I'm surprised Season 14 is so high, imo that season was a bit rough with their choice of episodes and the world of Jack, more boring Nick and Lucifer. I think the 300th and Peace of Mind were great, I'll get more into my disappointment with season 14 when I get to that season.
Season 8 is probably so low because of the trials that weren't pulled through and that Amelia story. I love season 1 I'd actually put that in my top 5, but some episodes knock it down to my #7. People complain that Season 1 is too slow and there were no ongoing stories...but they don't care about those great mow episodes???? Maybe it's my age I dont know.
But I feel this ranking isn't #1 to #14, they have 5 seasons tied for #1 spot...
How would you rank yours by that?
Don't mean to sound like a teacher, but..
Seasons 1,3,4,5 = 100% (Perfection)
Season 2 = 95% (Amazing)
Seasons 6 & 7 = 85% (Great)
Season 8 = 80% (Good)
Season 9 = 75% (Above Average)
Seasons 10,11,13 = 70% (Average, but not bad)
Seasons 12 & 14 = 65% (Not Great, but had something)
It really depends what mood I'm in when ranking! ha no kidding!!
As I said earlier, later seasons are harder to rank because of mainly content. The Mythology wasn't as strong as it was earlier and that makes for me harder to mark. With having so many episodes to think about and give an honest mark is tricky. I remember over the years your feelings do change about a season, and without many participating in this thread just the two of us, you haven't got much results to compare with. On IMDb we used to do this with about 40 odd posters, so you could really balance out others results and compare more fluidly. Its a shame we don't have enough posters joining in our little ranking sessions. :(
