Season 1 of Supernatural

From my rewatch I thought I'd make a post on Season 1. I see a few people not really like Season 1, saying it's boring and slow. Well, if you are one of those individuals I don't think you have that much of an open mind or have respect for the shows beginning imo. I have much appreciation for the first season of Supernatural. I thought the Pilot was great and I really enjoy how the first season was filmed - with dark tones, where it made you feel like you were in the room too. There was really only a few "main stories" - Where's dad and what's going on with Sam? Along with what killed Mary and Jess?
>My favorite episodes were the Pilot, Hell House and Devil's Trap
>My least favorite was Route 666
I don't think Bugs was the worst episode I've ever seen - I thought it was actually quite disturbing and it doesn't get enough credit. The ending was a bit strange when the Bugs only swarmed them tho.

I’m a fan of S1. In fact, I recently restarted the series and am watching them in order (I used to skip around the seasons picking out my favorites). One of the first things that struck me was Dean’s voice didn’t have that gravelly tone yet that they parody later in the series. Sure, the pacing was a little slow and the stories were very reminiscent of another supernatural-like show that also filmed in that area ;) but the writing, acting, and production values were solid from the start. The thing I enjoy the most when watching S1 is the knowledge of what’s coming up in terms of the chances/risks the show takes with all the hilarious meta episodes where the entire Supernatural universe from the actors to the fans are fair game. Then there’s Chuck, Crowley, Cass, more Bobby, Ash, Jo, Uriel, and the list goes on to look forward to. And last but certainly not least is the incredibly hot chicks they have peppered throughout the series. Supernatural just has it all.

Reeveman, I couldn't have said it any better myself. I loved season 1 and is still one of my favourites. There was something about the lighting, the smoky undertones and the way it was generally filmed. Season 1 was something rather special. Out of the first five seasons three is my least favourite. Many believe it wasn't Kripke behind the mastermind S1-5 it was Kim Manners, I so agree with this. Eric was a strong script writer, BUT, Kim knew how to bring it all to life. I think in later seasons its lost its way a bit. I wouldn't say the quality but can't put my finger on it.
