I really enjoyed this episode, mostly the Dean and Sam moments.
BUT the Nick storyline is dragging it down for me. I dont care about Nick. I think we are seeing more Nick to give the boys more time off screen...but I'd honestly prefer 13 episodes a season, if it meant I got to see more of the brothers and less boring subplots.
I’d rather have the twenty they are bestowing on us. Shorter season with these writers and Showrunner does not necessarily guarantee a great season made.

shareMind you, saying that about the Nick plot, I thought his wife was an amazing actress she handled those scenes so well. I am with you Sammi that the Nick stuff is dragging the season and is a shame as the last three episodes have been blinders. I also think the boys are wanting more time off, as you said the Nick plot helps that theory out.
The boys are getting older, and their kids are getting older so the more time off they get with their families I tend to think the more they want. So it wouldn't surprise me if we find down the line that seasons are cut more to benefit their families. They so deserve the down time, and time is so precious. In the long run if the quality of the seasons are less then in the long term it doesn't over bother me. On the down side we get longer summer breaks which is hard enough to stomach already this year its gonna be hell.
I was out last week so I taped the show. Got to see it today and I think it's one of the better episodes they've done. There are times I want to take something to hit Dean with when he fights like everything to keep Sam, Cas or everyone else alive. But when it comes to his life it's a one way road. He gives up too easily and thinks there's no way out. Just cuz Billie gave him that folder that apparently said that was he's only way out to me it could still change. She said all the others changed except that one. What "if" they change again. I got the impression that those files are not the end all and anything could change them. Loved Sam's speech and when he hit Dean I literally cheered.
