Rate 12.22 - Who We Are
Might as well judge the episodes on their own merits, since they're two separate episodes.

shareDidn't like it.
Brothers separated quickly.
Dean benched.
All this time wasted on Mary.
Unearned redemption for Mary and a nauseating family reunion scene to boot. Still no explanation for why Mary acted the way she did but by all means, let's wipe the slate clean.
Blergh.
ETA: Oh, and Roy and Walt. Nuff said.
I'll leave my impressions on 12.23 here until you make a thread for it.
I liked it better because at least it had no cheap emotional manipulation surrounding Mary Winchester and the boys were in the middle of the action together. Now saying I liked it better doesn't mean I thought it was great, I just disliked it less than Part 1. I still hate that Rowena and Crowley are gone. Of course, Castiel's death won't stick and by some miracle, Lucifer will spare Mary's life.
Once again it was worse then I could imagine and I just can't get invested in these episodes any more. Dean was sent to the cornfield again. I accept that was the only way Dean would get to use the grenade launcher and I'm glad it was the real Dean but it definitely wasn't a hero moment. General SuperSammy did a great job inspiring the hunters to their deaths. Everyone called the Ketch/Mary thing weeks ago. The level of stupidity with how they handled Rowena amazed even me. Felt nothing for alt Bobby, completely unsurprised. Didn't feel anything for Crowley and I like him. Felt nothing for Cas as he will be resurrected in the first 5 minutes of 13. Not happy that Mary is still around or how easy it would be to bring her and Luci back.
This is the first finale where I have no interest in the next season. I really welcome the break. This year was brutal and the fact that there were no repercussions for the hacks that wrote it makes me fear 13.
I wasn't going to watch last night, I haven't been watching, but at the last minute a pal said she wanted to come over with wine and we'd drink and power through this one episode together. So I said, WTF, come on over. How bad can it be if we're sloshed?
There is no amount of alcohol in the world to make what I saw last night go down better. This is the episode Jensen liked?!?!? Has he given up so completely - and my feeling is that he has - that just because Dean finally got to use the grenade launcher, he was content enough? Because I can't see any other reason he'd have liked this episode.
When Ketch was pointing the gun at Dean, and you knew Mary would come up behind him and kill Ketch before he could kill Dean - SADLY - I was literally screaming at the TV for Ketch to hurry up and pull the trigger. IF THERE'S A GOD YOU WILL KILL OFF DEAN WINCHESTER RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW IT WOULD BE A FREAKING MERCY KILLING HURRY HURRY HURRY!!!!!!!!!!
No to avail. SIGH! That is the only thing that would have made that episode better.
And the shit with Dean and Mary was just so Dean could PIMP SAM?????? OMG, even Dean no longer recalls that he went to Hell! It really didn't happen, it never happened in DABB WORLD!!!!!! I HATE ANDREW DABB, I HATE BO BO BERENS, I HATE EVERYONE INVOLVED IN THIS SHOW!
And I can't even with all the lame Sam monologues and his RAGING NARCISSISM on display for everyone to see and revel in. Screw you, Sam.
Could it get any worse? Well yes it could - see episode 23.
And the shit with Dean and Mary was just so Dean could PIMP SAM??????
I thought it was kind of preposterous.
shareWhich part?
shareWell the only part I liked was killing off the BMOL's storyline. The rest didn't work for me at all. Even the grenade launcher, how did it get into the Bunker? And again with the information dump to catch our heros up on everything we already know.
shareThat part I do get. They park baby in the garage so the launcher was in the trunk.
shareSam's big inspirational speech fell flat. The Disney brothers? Seriously? The brothers separated...again. Even the brother hug seemed thrown in for all the fans who have been bitching all season. Dean in Mary-land....I loved it when he told her he hated her. He should have left it at that. Who didn't see Mary killing Ketch coming a mile away? When did Dean become so ineffective as a fighter? I kept thinking he was going to pull the gun out from under the table but no it takes Dean and his mom to take Ketch down.
And now I am watching the Kelly show.
Yep the Sam speech which led all the hunters to their deaths.
shareYeah the one where he started out with this is all my fault, I screwed up but follow me to make it right speech. That one.
shareI also didn't care for the "follow me" part of the speech. I know it was supposed to show some growth and that he was ready to stop being a follower and start leading but it didn't come together for me.
shareBut it was really bad! JP couldn't sell it IMO
shareI would have to rewatch the episodes. Some details are a bit fuzzy. I don't remember having a problem with JP's delivery. It's just the switch from "it's my fault" to "riiiiise up!" didn't really work for me.
I was looking at the screen like π π ... mm, not feeling it.
And if the delivery was good, you would feel it. Good acting makes you feel the emotion. Not good acting leaves you "not feeling it". Sometimes JA doesn't deliver too but usually for me it's JP. Really takes me out of the story.
shareFair enough, I completely get what you mean, I just can't pinpoint what bothered me at this time. I need a rewatch. My brain is actively blocking out the finale and I'm starting to forget big chunks of it. Not even kidding lol.
shareI think a big part of it was the music. The music department this season has seriously gone for the cheese whenever they could, and it really effects what we're watching.
shareOMG, yes to this. Like the music during the montage of the boys searching the bunker for the bug. Took me out of the moment.
shareI wish I had a more eloquent response but all I can say is I agree with every single word. What more could I add lol.
Ah yes, the Kelly show. She didn't bother me. The actress did a good job and I was grateful she didn't have a gory death.
Yeah, it may not have been gory, but the glowing vagina in the sky that everyone kept traipsing through followed by the light shooting out of her when she gave birth was just . . .
shareI'd have to watch both episodes again before judging. I think they were written for the casual viewer - not us invested nutjobs. LOL.
What did strike me was the 'smallness' of everything. I know they don't have a big budget but....
I was reminded of a show called Under The Dome. A dome comes down and covers a town of about two thousand people. However, viewers only ever saw about 20 townsfolk at any one time. Even when they called a town meeting - 20 people showed up. Where were the other thousands? It never made any sense.
Same thing here. They call a hunters' gathering and 5 people show up!! Super Sam then leads the motley crew to the Super Duper BMOL headquarters - guarded by a chain-link fence no less - which contains a hand full of BMOL-ers who are easily taken down by a few bullets.
It all seemed kinda Mickey Mouse to me.
I'll have to watch again before commenting further. But it all seemed cheap. Even the vagina world was obviously a green screen. Although it did pique my interest. An 'It's a Wonderful World' type of episode could be kinda great I think. Sam and Dean are heroes, and they've done a lot of good. What would the world be like if they hadn't been born? Kind of wobbles the mind.
A long wait for the new season.
