Here's the link. There seems to be confirmation here that Cas chose to protect the nephilim, not that he was brainwashed into it. Other than that, things don't seem to sound very good for Cas. Emphasis on 'seem'.

I agree. There were no consequences for killing Death, but I guess Death never got the chance to follow through on his side of the deal, and it's the deal breaking that has lead to the epic consequences for Billie's death? The question is who has to suffer those consequences, the ones who made the deal or the one who broke it?
