Do Things This Season Change How You See Previous Episodes/Seasons

For instance, if you were to go back and watch season 1, would you feel the same about it now that you've gotten to know a little more about Mary? Would you feel worse for the boys? John? Would there be episodes you may no longer like? Would your thoughts on Azazel change now that you know there are 3 more YEDs hanging out somewhere else on the planet? Does this season make you wonder why Abaddon didn't just go after the BMoL for their key to the bunker? I'm curious to find out what this season has done to people's perception of previous seasons, or has it changed anything at all?

Mary and John's separation when Dean was young. I figured John was to blame and was basically the same person as he was after Mary's death just not as hard core. Now we learn that Mary was off hunting days at a time and keeping secrets. At the very least, John probably thought she was cheating. This season caused me to dislike Mary and appreciate John more.

I look at season 12 as an aberration so it doesn't change the way I look at the previous seasons.

I think Mary especially has been retconned into a new character. The Mary from "Pilot" was NOT sneaking out to hunt. She was knocking on flickering lamps when we all know an active hunter would have reached for a shotgun and some salt.

This is an alternate universe, Supernatural: The Bloodlines Edition, kinda like Flashpoint in The Flash. I blame Barry Allen. He ran back in time, changed the timeline on his show and when he tried to set things straight, he wasn't able to put the timeline back together so we all ended up in this distorted universe that sucks for everyone.

I wish I was as optimistic as you are. When I go back and watch older episodes, I find them so much sadder now. For example, look at Dead in the Water. Dean telling Lucas that he started talking again when he was a kid and does what he does every day (hunting), because he thinks his Mom would want him to be brave . . . much sadder. Now when I see that scene, all I can think is that Dean's way of coping with his life is so misplaced, because if Mary actually knew what he was doing, she'd take off, work with the enemy, and then tell him that the enemy's way is better than what he's been doing his entire life. We've known since seasons 4 & 5 that she didn't want to be a hunter and wouldn't have wanted her kids raised as hunters, but she wasn't alive to see how it played out, so it didn't matter until she came back this year. It just makes the older episodes feel so much more . . . tragic.

I see where you're coming from. I suppose it's a coping mechanism for me. I've reached a point where I'm feeling completely disconnected from the show. I have to stay on top of things because I still have a review to write for the latest episode and a 2 for 1 mega review to write for the 2-part finale. For the first time since I started my reviews, I've been counting every week to see how many I have left to write (probably since episode 6). I'm very close to dropping the show and I will rejoice when hiatus comes. I will be more than happy to close the door on season 12 and forget all about it. I hope the constant stream of criticism will reach TPTB and that someone will force Dabb to make some changes. For now, I'm just waiting for this nightmare season to end.

Well Chuck as God already makes my mind explode when watching earlier seasons. And now Mary. Guess John wasn't entirely to blame when they separated those few days.
