Good show

but it has lasted 12 years! Time to end it.

I'm probably going to regret responding to this, but absolutely not. In no way do I want the show to end in it's current state. They need to get rid of Dabb and Singer as show runners and see what they can do about fixing this. To end it in its current state would be a disservice. Besides, the show's been picked up already for season 13.

Thumbs up!

I wonder who could replace Dabb.

I'd surprised if Singer ever went anywhere. He's been here through Kripke, Gamble, Carver and now this new Dabb era.

Except, I think Singer has had very little input into the storyline this season. He's always leaned more towards Sam, because he thinks Dean is boring, but he's also always been the one who wants to stick to the formula of the show, sometimes to the detriment of the show, like when the DemonDean arch was ended prematurely. This season, there is very little feel of the show's formula/what has always made it work (the brothers, their interactions, character interactions in general, etc.), and I don't think that's his doing, but he certainly hasn't stepped in to fix any of the problems either. I'm guessing that this season he's solely there to be the money man and someone who keeps the Nep duo employed, and Dabb has won out creatively. I always thought Singer seemed like a very strong personality, but if he can't stand up to Dabb, because he's either too tired or whatever it is, then he needs to go.

"Who could they get to replace Dabb?"

Well, since this show prides itself on the idea of family behind the scenes as much as it does on screen, I'm guessing it'd have to be someone associated with the show. Kripke and Carver are both free now, aren't they? It might be a big step back, but after this season, I'd feel like it was a step forward to have either of them there. Berens hasn't renewed his contract, and since he's become much less present/vocal as the season has progressed, I'm guessing it won't be him. Not one of the new writers.

I mentioned a few times that I didn't understand what Singer was doing this season since a lot of the things that made it to the air were things he was never in favor of. He must be tired of working on the creative side of things as you said, which is sad because for all his faults, he never seemed to waiver in his belief that the brothers were the center of the show. Now we don't even have that. He's clearly given up.

I know it'll be someone from the show. The problem is I don't see who has the experience save for Berens and since he hasn't renewed his contract, I'm left with the same questions. With our luck, we'd end up with Davy Perez. I just don't see a clear successor and that worries me. I don't know what Carver is doing now that Frequency is as good as dead but I don't know if he would ever think about coming back (not that I'm saying he should). Kripke's Timeless is also as good as dead but I always had the distinct impression that Kripke didn't want to be bothered with SPN anymore.

I had a lot of problems with Carver, because this absolute trouncing of canon really started to get bad under his reign, but at least his myth arcs fit within the parameters of the show. I don't think Kripke wants to be bothered with the show anymore, and I had some problems with the way his storylines went, especially after we lost Kim Manners. Maybe he just doesn't care about the show and wants to be done with it now, but he does seem to have a lot of respect for J2, and since he isn't doing anything, he might as well come back and finish his show off in a way that is fitting of the series or at least stick around until someone else can take over.

I think 13 will be the final season. We may get a shortened season 14, but I think that's it. And I'm beginning to think the Js are even ready to hang up their guns.

But I want this series to go out with a bang, not a whimper. They HAVE to get rid of dabbling Dabb and bring in someone who knows and loves the two heroes at the centre of the show.

The best option left is for Carver to come back. For all of his faults he knew how key Dean is to the show and actually gave him stories. It was Singer that cut down the Purgatory and Demon Dean arc. I don't know if Carver got burned out or wanted to have his own show but you could tell he turned over the reigns in Season 11.

If they make it to 300 (which they may not with the current crew) I'm still hopeful for the show's future. Jensen has been pushing a SPN movie at the con's and Jared has been extremely enthusiastic for limited seasons or a movie run on Netflix. That could be really good.

Yeah, it's nice to think about how things could be improved. I just don't know if CW has as big a problem with Dabb as we do. All these replacements can only happen in the event that he gets fired by the network and last week, SPN was number 3 in the ratings.
