They even say they have a son. Maybe Clark came home that same day after getting a job at the Daily Planet.

I felt really sorry for them. They, kindly, take in Wolverine, let him stay with them (despite him being a naked stranger that breaks into their barn!) give him their dead son's awesome leather jacket and how does he repay them? He slices up their bathroom sink and gets them killed by a group of government assassins? What an a hole.
