Why didn't Scott Summers blow Victor to pieces? He attacks him at the school; knowing Victor likes to kill innocent humans and mutants alike.

Why aim for the school ceiling instead of Victor's face?

The idea was that he was a scared teenager who had not been trained to use his powers. And he didn't know Victor liked to kill innocent anyone because he didn't know who Victor was or why he was after him.

Just watched it (yeah I'm behind on my movies) but he didn't aim for the ceiling. He gets tackled from behind and his sunglasses fly off, causing the beam to go wild...he didn't purposely do anything.
