Carmen Castro

Do you all think that if Hector had have married her instead of Puchi his life would have turned out different or the same? I have never quite understood why Lavoe became in many people's words, self-destructive. was it because of his relationship with his wife, stress from his fame and music career, or a combination of both. And did Hector ever visit his first son and did he help support his first son? I dont recall the movie mentioning anything about his first son.

Hector was "allowed" very minimal contact with his first born son by Puchi. By that I mean that she made his life a living hell anytime he wanted to have visits with his son, either in their home or outside of it. As far as Puchi was concerned, Hector's only son was the son they shared and she could have given one shyte less what happened to Hector's first born. She was THAT jealous and spiteful.

I'm not sure how different Hector's life would have been had he married Carmen. Perhaps he'd have been just as self destructive, perhaps he wouldn't. But being married to a lunatic like Puchi certainly didn't help matters. She was every bit as self destructive as he was and the two of them together were just hell on wheels. When he was all used up and near death, she may as well have spat in his face with the way she treated him. Just another reason why it was so TACKY of them to make her character as sympathetic as they did on screen. She wasn't a bitch with a heart of gold, folks- She was just a straight out bitch.

They never mention his first son in the movie because Puchi didn't want Hector to have any contact with Carmen or his first son when they were married and since the movie was based off of her point of view they don't talk about it anymore.

that was very selfish of her not wanting Hector to be apart of his first son's life.

In the movie, there is a scene, where Puchi walks into the recording studio and tells a woman to "get out". Then you see Hector being told that Puchi and Carmen have gotten into a confrontation. Was that Carmen, his first sons mother, Carmen Castro?

Hector Perez "Lavoe" had way more issues than just his wife. I doubt that Puchi had influence over his brothers life and he was also lost to drugs and as a result died of an overdose. I think it was a hard era to live in. It was the time of sex drugs and rock and roll. And drugs hit all the entertainment industries salsa stars, disco stars, movie stars, rock stars, that compiled with his own issues and throw in a little Puchi drama and there you got some self destruction.
