shareI dont think the actresess you mentioned would do an interpretation as a newyorican the way that Jennifer did. She was marvelous`as Puchie. she was aunthentic, and credible, many people that met Puchie, were very impressed with her acting, because what they saw was Puchie not Jennifer in the screen.
shareI love Salma Hayek. She's beautiful, has brains and is a talented actress. You may not think highly of Lopez, but, this performance in this movie was her finest hour. She kicked ass in this role. So I have to give credit where it is due. My only issue with the movie is, there was a little TOO MUCH PUCHI! I would have loved to know more about Hector Lavoe on screen. Marc Anthony(a brilliant Salsero in his own right) was simply fantastic in this movie also. My problem is I do not feel that I really knew Hector Lavoe from watching this film. A biopic is supposed to make you feel that you knew the person. There were all sorts of information missing from what I have since read and heard of him. But, Jennifer Lopez gave her FINEST performance in this movie.

Many people may not like her but I think Jennifer did an incredible job playing Puchi. Plus if you saw the pictures of the real Puchi at the end of the movie you would see that Jennifer looks alot like Puchi. The resemblance is incredible. Plus that would be retarded to have a Mexican like Hayek or Cruz play the role of a Newyorican when you have J-Lo who is a real Newyorican.

JENNIFER LOPEZ can directly relate to the background and culture. As a "Nuyorican" myself, Jennifer played that part to the max. Que Viva Puerto Rico!!! Long live the music, the culture, our actors & actresses. I like how this film was made as an ode to the Salsa Musicians of today. The music stays playing even after the movie stops.
