That Steak!

I can't think of anything people have not talked about when it comes to this movie.

However...that steak! I just can't take it.
I don't eat meat very much but every time they show her racing to get Miranda that Steak, sizzling out of the oven, then setting it all up at her desk I get so hungry!

Anyone know what cut of Steak that was? I know it's something expensive but I am no expert on different names for different cuts of steak but I wouldn't mind trying out that cut.

They don't have a great shot of it but it looks to be a bone in Ribeye with an herb blend that she sprinkles over it. The reason that steak looks so perfect is that commercial broiler it's pulled out of, the best steaks are extremely high heat to sear that sucker in a flash. If you want to do one at home a cast iron skillet is the only way to get close to that level. Alton Brown's version is how I do it and I get a $25 piece of meat that I have paid $70 for quite often.

Place a 10-to-12-inch cast-iron skillet in the oven and heat the oven to 500 degrees F. Bring the steak to room temperature.

When the oven reaches temperature, remove the skillet and place on the range over high heat for 5 minutes. Coat the steak lightly with oil and sprinkle both sides with a generous pinch of salt. Grind on black pepper.

Immediately place the steak in the middle of the hot, dry skillet. Cook 30 seconds without moving. Turn with tongs and cook another 30 seconds, then put the pan straight into the oven for 2 minutes. Flip the steak and cook for another 2 minutes. (This time is for medium-rare steak. If you prefer medium, add a minute to both of the oven turns.)

Remove the steak from the skillet, cover loosely with foil and rest for 2 minutes. Serve whole or slice thin and fan onto plate.

This is for an inch and half thick boneless steak, he recommends Canola oil as it has a higher smoke point. Never been disappointed doing it this way with Ribeye or Strip. Never tried Filet (tenderloin) this way as I prefer it on my grill with bearnaise sauce or Steak Au Poivre for which he has a great recipe.

Oh I cry everytime I see her throw the whole damn plate in the sink.

Doesn't she know children in Africa are starving? Hell, I'm starving!

I don't even like steak that much (weird, I know) and even I want that steak.

Once upon a time there was a magical place where it never rained. The end.

Watched it with the commentary once, and they were all crying over the fact that she had to break the Vera Wang china it was on (they only did one take). I was crying over the fact that she destroyed a steak that had me salivating like crazy.

"Oh my God! You put a living room where the crack den used to be!"

I wondered why she didn't eat it herself instead of throwing it away. 

I think her stomach was in tense knots at that point.

No time.

Even though she already had lunch plans, Miranda sent Andy to get the steak simply to make it more difficult/impossible for her to find a copy of the Harry Potter manuscript.

The scene with the steak grosses me out, actually. Yuck! I'm not vegan, either.

reply

I wasn't feeling the steak so much on the close up because it seemed to have a lot of fat on it. At the same time, yeah I get pissed she threw it away too. Andy was so pissed she probably just didn't want to eat something that Miranda had just rejected.

That was a beautifully, well-prepared piece of meat.. I almost jumped off the treadmill while i was watching that scene, just to get a whiff of that steak!!
