I dont find Kate Winslet all that beautiful in this movie

I think she's supposed to be ordinary and quaint, just like the house. As opposed to jet setter Cameron Diaz with the Hollywod mansion. And in the end she forgets her dark, broody & needy Bastard in favour of Everyman Jack Black.

I think Kate is a very classically beautiful woman. You can tell she is supposed to have an "average, ordinary woman" feel with minimal make up and simple hair. Like the user above, it's to contrast with the "Hollywood" look of Cameron Diaz's character.

She is supposed to be lovely looking, but dowdy. She acts the part perfectly.

Kate/Iris is all about inner beauty and also the classic beauty of old Hollywood, which is what Arthur responds to, and why he sees her as a leading lady (and not the best friend) I loved Kate in this role and found the warmth of Iris to be one of my favorite things about the movie. External beauty fades...but the kind of beauty that is portrayed in the character of Iris, is the kind that will always be lovely - no matter how old she is.

Hahaha, rebecca-1960, after reading only the name of this thread, I clicked in here with the intention of saying, basically, "I agree, and I think it's because her hair is too flat, and her eyebrows are too dark for her haircolor and just kinda off." And then I read that this is almost exactly what you already said! LOL! I agree that she does not look beautiful in this particular movie. (Perhaps it was a deliberate choice.)
