Which scene made you cringe the most?

First off I was surprised how violently graphic this movie is. I was expecting a children movie, but it's obviously not for children.

My pick would be the beating of the farmer with the bottle. Didn't expect that at all, with the preconceived notions I had about the film.

I avoided this movie when it was released because I too was under the impression it was a children's fantasy movie that didn't appeal to me. Never saw a trailer or anything, went in completely blind. The realness and detail of the monsters blew my mind. The faun was creepy as hell and the guy at the dining table had me legitimately concerned for the protagonist.

I am so glad that I randomly decided to watch this as it is one of the absolute best films I've ever seen. I immediately watched all of Del Toro's other works, Devil's Backbone and Cronos were particularly good. Even Pacific Rim is well done for a summer blockbuster.

Biting the heads off the fairies, because after that I lost a lot of love for Ofelia as a character. She gets two little helpers torn apart by iPalms and all she has to say is "There was an accident.. it was only two grapes." as though that excuses her from doing whatever she feels like.

Gotta admit though, I'm not sure what put me more in the mood of grapes, the two frankly huge grapes Ofelia stole or the *ShpucK* sound the fairies' heads made when they popped.

Ya Kirk-loving Spocksucker!

SPOILERS

The fairies for sure. But I believe we seen them again at the end when Ophelia has passed on to the next life, and theyre all flying around her happily.

Another scene was the death of the farmer who were hunting rabbits. I can't rewatch that scene ever.

What a day! What a lovely day!

What else would you have expected from a fascist commander?

The thing that ate the fairies for sure. It was so ugly I thought where he get the idea. I thought he must have been high to think of it.

The lenghty scene were Captain Vidal sews his sliced cheek back together.

reply

The killing of the farmer / rabbit hunter was cruel and heartless... Also how captain vidal kills ofelia in the end was hard to digest. I hoped till the end that she will come back alive, but she didnt.

The real-world stuff made me cringe way more than any of the magical stuff. Maybe that was the director's intent?

-The captain beating the farmer with the bottle.
-The captain sowing his cheek back together.

reply

Just say this with some other people and most of them flipped out when he was sewing his cheek up. šŸ˜ I didn't mind that one much. The farmer and the torture were much worse imo.
